Super Sleeve (Gastric Plication)

Recommended Posts

I am very happy with my choice to have the super sleeve but from what I understand if you have around 100 or more lbs to lose you should go with the vsg. I'm no dr so i would just talk to your dr about the pros and cons. My largest size is 20, my pro-op size was 14-16, and as of today I'm 8-10. I haven't lost much weight this month but I lost a few inches so that is good.

When you say Super Sleeve, are you still talking VSG? Because I've heard Super Sleeve used to describe a smaller pouch (A versus B) with the VSG procedure and with the Plication procedure. "Marketing" you got to love it but it can be confusing:)

Hi Mellifrits,

I was curious on how you are doing and how much weight have you lost so far, also how much food do you think you can eat in one sitting?

I am a size 20 now and I do want to loose 100lbs, just still debating:confused1:

and it sucks!! I wish I could just decide on one or the other darn it!!

thanks Lisa

Hi, sorry i didn't post anything earlier. It is 4 weeks now.The surgery went very well in TJ. I was very weak after surgery for 2 weeks. I would suggest that you have at least 20g of Protein everyday after surgery. You can get it in the powder form. I have lost 15lbs to date. I think i have hit a stall for the past week and half. I can see i am losing inches though. I still have alot of gas and i am taking nexium for it, hopefully it goes away soon. I find myself feeling hungry after every 2 hours. The doctors said i am mistaking gas for hunger, I think I would know the difference. I get my fluids in when i feel hungry. I have lots of Water and hot green tea. The hot liquids help soothe the stomach and help with the gas. I am eating solids now and i eat everything possible. Remember to chew slowly. When you are hungry you want to eat faster and you can end up overeating. It takes a few minutes for the food to hit the bottom of my stomach if i overeat I end up feeling uncomfortable in the chest area for a little while, not too long. So once you know how much you can eat you will be fine, you wouldn't make the mistake to overeat again.

My only problem is the gas and feeling hunger too soon. Is there anyone out there with this problem. Please share with me.

Thank you so much for sharing. As you already know, I'm nervous and I hadn't completely made my mind up about getting VSP or VSG?? I really want whatever is going to bring the results I'm looking for SAFELY. I'm going by myself, I'm leaving Saturday and will return the following Saturday. My doctor wants to observe me for a week before he sends me home:) I'm not complaining, at least he's not trying to do "drive thru" surgery. Were you ever considering VSG or were you always going to do VSP?

Hi 4My, I have had the hunger feeling two hours after I eat also. It feels like my stomach is growling. So annoying. What I started to do was make myself belch. When I do that, the feeling goes away. I felt the same way you did, but mine turned out to be gas after all. Try that and see if it helps. I'm eight weeks out, down 27 pounds, and coming off my blood pressure meds. My growling was almost constant at first and I was regretting the surgery, but now I'm fine.

Hi Joanie, I feel so relief to hear someone else experienced this trouble and that you are fine now. Thanks for taking the time to let me know this. I had the same feeling of regret, with some sleepless nights. Your words will help me sleep alot better tonight. I will try belching as big as I can. I just did and it felt much better than burping. I hate all this gas. I am glad you're off your BP meds, i have been off my diabetic pills from since the day of surgery, my sugar levels have dropped to normal. So if this surgery can help my diabetes where nothing else was, I am all for GPS.

Hi, Are you doing your surgery with Dr. Corvala at Angeles Hospital. If you are don't be nervous. They are very nice and will take good care of you. If you could, try to take some OXO Soup mix (the powder type)with you. If you are flying it will do you good to ask the air hostess for some hot Water, add the mix in and drink, oh it will help so much with the gas. Try to pack light because you don't want to do any heavy lifting, ask for help. After surgery they wanted to keep me longer because i was so weak and out of it, however i would have lost my money for my flight back, so i mustered up some strength and told them i wanted to go home. I was never interested in VSG because of the partial removal of the stomach. That sounded scary to me and i did not do enough research on that type of surgery. God's speed. Will keep in contact.

Tomorrow is my big day!! I'm getting Sleeve Plication with Dr. Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center in TJ. I have gone back and forth with Sleeve Plication versus Sleeve Gastrectomy and unless something changes after pre-ops in the morning, I will be getting the plication. I am a little nervous but I've done my research and I feel confident with Dr. Ortiz and his team:)

I had a plication with Dr Ortiz in TJ last week. The first one was done in 2007 and many predict it will virtually replace bands in about 5 years. We will see. I feel great - 5 days out. No pain from surgery. Pain from gas and reflux. I can eat about /2 cup of liquid Soup and them am FULL. As someone said, feels like I ate T-giving dinner. The sweeling will go down tho and I should be able to eat 4-6 ozs a meal. I didn't want to risk slips and erosions as well as have to deal with fills. I hope it works. Didn't undergo major surgery for nothing :)

deb in Phoenix

I am wondering is there any one hear that has had the Plication Surgery when it first came out around may? If so how much weight have you lost?

Could you give us a update?

Lisa~

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
