Is this a true stall?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure if this is a stall or if I'm just not working hard enough any more...

I haven't lost anything for about 6 weeks now. I've lost a total of 108 pounds and I'm very happy with that, but I'm far from thin. My weight fluctuates between 243-245 daily. I really need to get another 50-60 pounds off and I'm starting to wonder if it will happen. I've been exercising consistently for about 2 weeks now (5-6 times a week) but I really think my problem is my eating. I'm not getting the 80-100 grams of Protein a day...it's more like 40-60.

My husband recently decided he wants to eat healthier, so hopefully that will help.

Any suggestions? I also have not been getting all my Water in daily.

Wow 108 pounds! Congratulations on your success so far! My weight loss has also slowed down, and I still have quite a ways to go. I think you are on the right track by shaking things up a bit and working out. My doctor recently told me that after our initial healing from surgery, new studies show that 40 grams of Protein a day is plenty. After hearing so much about the importance of getting protein in, and atleast 60-70 grams a day this concept is still hard for me to believe. But atleast on the days when I don't get enough, I'm not as worried about it. I would just try to drink more Water, and continue working out, hopefully your body will finally let go and you'll start losing again! That's what I've been hoping for anyways. Good luck with your continued weight loss, and let us know if things improve.

Ash - I'm not sure what to say. Until reading the previous post, I would have said to up the Protein and get in more Water. What does your doctor say? I know for me (pre-surgery and post surgery) that the more protein I got, the less I wanted to eat of other things. What is your caloric intake? Are you still tracking your meals?

Have you tried tracking on one of the many sites that tells you have many calories/carbs/protein/fat to maintain or lose weight?

I use myfitnesspal.com

It's not going to be exact because it tells me for me to maintain I need to eat around 3100 calories per day, but I can't get more than about 1500-1800 per day and I've been able to maintain for the most part.

If you are burning way more calories than you are consuming then you may need to increase by 100-200 calories per day. I know the more Protein I consumed, the more fat I burned, and pounds I lost. I get in almost 80-90gr of Protein per day now, and I balance it with healthy carb options and some not so sleeve friendly carbs.

I don't know if you are watching carbs, but the suggestion that I always give is to cut carbs and increase calories for a week or two to get the scale moving again.

I'm pretty sure carbs are my issue. Tiff, how are you getting so much Protein? With drinks or not?

I have gotten in more Protein the past week and the scale moved yesterday and today...in the downward direction, yay! I've just been stuck in the 240's for so long that I really want to get out of them, lol.

I'm burning between 500-600 calories a day, 5-6 times a week for two weeks now. The two weeks before that it was about 3 times a week, and before that, I hadn't exercised consistently at all.

Glad to hear the scale is going downward with the numbers.

I eat a lot of meat that's the only way I can manage that much Protein. I try to throw some cheese in with it, or have greek yogurt as a snack. To get my carbs in, I have to graze on crackers/cheese, sometimes I do have those lean cuisine or WW meals that are like hot pockets. I'll eat the insides, wait a few minutes then eat some of the crust. Beans are still a staple in my diet as well. I'll snack on Beans and rice. At any given time, I have rice and beans, or rice and chicken in my fridge. I eat tortillas with beans/cheese, or even deli meat with cheese. Usually, I can only eat 1/2 of a tortilla, but I can hit my goals most days. Some days my body craves veggies, and I fall short on Protein and might only get in 40g that day. I don't understand, but I figure my body is telling me what it needs to run efficiently. For the first time ever, I'm actually listening to my body and doing it right. I'm also pretty sedentary. Other than running errands, volunteering, and mall walking. I'm trying to get into the work out routine again.

Hope that helps.

That sounds similar to what I try to eat, but I guess I just get lazy on keeping the protein handy. I saw Sex and the City 2 today and want Sarah Jessica Parker's legs so badly that I'm going to live at the gym from now on, I swear, lol

LOL you can have her legs, I'll take her ass any day of the week ! ! !

I try to keep the carbs in check, but some days I go way over. I'm just trying to maintain at this point. Luckily, I've not dropped any further.

Tiff, I can only imagine how it will be for me when I hit and then surpass my goal weight and have to maintain, it is just not real to me yet! But I am consistently losing each day which I am happy about. Today is the start of mushies for me, yippee! I have had half a Protein shake (cannot WAIT to kick these things to the CURB!) and a hard boiled egg. I am full!!! I will have some chicken salad for lunch and maybe dinner too or maybe so Beans and cheese. I will continue to track my intake. My main concern right now is Fluid intake, I know now that since I am not in liquid stage I will have to work harder to get fluids in on top of what I am eating for nutrition.

Ash, WOW!!! 108 pounds, that is great! Sounds to me like shaking up your diet and getting in your fluids, especially since you are hitting the gym so hard! Congrats on your success and your commitment to the gym, that is excellent!

Just as an additional thought, if you have only recently been working out, you might be gaining some muscle which is making it seem like you aren't losing, even though you probably ARE losing fat & inches. Do you track your measurements? I bet there have been some changes there. Just keep it up, and the Water is INVALUABLE, get 80oz a day and you will see changes!

I sure hope I am gaining muscle! I love that the classes at the gym include strength training with cardio. The class I went to this morning was AWESOME!

The scale moved again and now I'm down 111 pounds! Hope I can keep it up. :001_tt2:

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
