tightness in my calves

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I've noticed a weird feeling come about my calves since surgery. Actually it started sometime yesterday I think, after sitting in a rocker for a bit and then when I stood up to walk away I felt what I would describe a mild charlie horse "knot" inside my calf that went away as soon as I started walking. It did it again early this morning after sleeping most the night. I just thought its probably because I am deficient in a Vitamin or something due to such limited diet right now. Anyone experience this? I will call my doctor if it continues, as I know he had mentioned the reason for being up and walking all the time was to eliminate blood clots. I have been taking strolls around the neighborhood at least once everyday, sometimes twice. So I don't think it is lack of circulation.

Since surgery (wednesday) I have consumed only broths, Water, v8 light splash, Powerade zero, and sf Jello and popsicles. I am taking a daily chewable Multi-Vitamin as well. This is basically what I am limited to for 1.5 week when I will begin bringing in cheese, eggs, refried Beans, and dark meat Protein.

Being dehydrated, low on Calcium and especially low on potassium can all cause muscle tightness, twitchiness and spasms. Are you getting calcium and potassium in your daily Vitamin? I think that'd be the first thing to check.

I took a potassium supplement before surgery - helped to prevent cramps in my legs and feet. I have continued to take that after as well. I also take prenatals and a B complex.

I had my Iron checked about a week ago - and it was just fine. I am having full labs done in about 3 weeks.

If it was just soreness and not cramps, you could be sleeping (or if you are sitting in a recliner) with your feet flat and knees up? Not sure if that is described properly. I found myself doing that subconscientiously after some point and then couldn't figure out why my calves hurt! lol

My first thought after reading your post was you are low on Potassium. Can u eat mushy bananas? If your calves do not feel warm to the touch, more than likely it's not blood clots.

just an update to my own post for others if they may begin experiencing this. The knots in my calves did settle early last week. While I do believe it had something to do with being deficient in a particular Vitamin, the cramps have stopped although I did not add supplements.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
