When I lost 200+ pounds, I never saw myself the way others did. I would see a person and ask, "Am I the same size as she is?" Body image is a strange process and I think the longer a person is morbidly obese, the longer it takes him/her to "see" themselves the way others do. I remember getting a surprise glimpse of myself in a mirror and being shocked it was ME I was looking at. Similarly, when I would shop for clothes, I ALWAYS picked clothes that were too large to try on thinking, THAT size would never fit me... but it did.

Although I answered in Pnut's post that I never saw myself as really "big" either, I have stuck in my head that I'm a "big girl". I am taller and larger built than most women, yet still smaller than most men. However, I was bigger than most boys in late primary school and throughout high school.

I've learned to appreciate myself as "Amazonian", lol. I really dont think I"ll ever feel thin because I didnt feel think when I was 70kg, and I dont feel any fatter now than I did then either. I feel just the same.

Gawd, I need a drink. Its wine o'clock here. That made no sense did it?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
