Why is there so much pain when I eat?

Recommended Posts

Guest NiceGirl

Hello All,

I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on the pain and tightness I feel in my stomach after about the third bite of food. It doesn't seem to matter what the food is (mushy or soft, animal or vegetable), the pain always crops up. I am less than two weeks out and am truly praying that this pain will pass...but I would love to hear your thoughts/advice.

The result of the pain for me is that I stop eating way before I should and I am not meeting my Protein goals for sure.

Thanks for your posts!!

I was still on clears at 2 weeks(as are all of my surgeon's patients) out so I'm not sure what else to offer other than your stomach may not be ready for this diet stage. Unfortunately, not all of us can advance the diet even if the surgeon okays it. I had to stay on mushies/soft solids much longer than the prescribed 2 weeks because I just could not handle dense Protein. Our bodies kind of tell us what it likes and doesn't like.

I would go back to full liquids for a few days and see if you get any relief. Contact your surgeon/nut and ask for other suggestions.

I would imagine at less than two weeks out that your new tummy is not healed enough for that.

Are you sure you can have mushies and soft foods already?

Hi Nice Girl,

I live in SW Florida. I had surgery 2 days before you. I'm still on full liquids. I have not been able to meet my liquid or Protein goals yet and I have experienced the pain you've talked about. I'm not allowed to try mushies until Monday. Take it easy and sip, sip, sip.

You do not want to get dehydrated, and you need the Protein to heal. Diluted chicken broth, Isopure flaved Water (40 G Protein a bottle). I have pure protein frosty chocalate shake warmed like cocoa in the morning. It sooths my stomach and gets 35 grams of protein in me. Find a way to get the liquids and protein you need. It's all here in this forum. Good luck and hope you feel better.

i got surgery in san francisco a day after you and i am still on liquids per my doctors orders. Two week of liquids and two of mushies. If your body is not ready tell your doctor. There is no standard for post operative diet with this sleeve. It seems like many doctors do it differently. However if it's painful..you're not ready...go back to mush. My two cents. Seaview

That pain will eventually go away ,,, but if you ever eat 1 more bite your new stomach will remind you the mistake.

Its a trial and error thing until you can handle how much food you are able to pack.

Wow, I am so amazed by how different my surgeon's instructions are from most others. Dr. Koppman advises mushies on Day 3 post-op!

Well I am definitely back on fluids. I had asked the nurse at his office if I could do that safely and she tried to discourage me, saying that the Protein from mushies is important. That may be true, but if I can't get it down...then it is useless to me.

Thank you everyone for your advice! You have helped me so much.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
