Hi all...could someone answer a question for me? I am 5 days post-op with the sleeve. I feel like I have done well. I am concerned though that with each sip I take I get a pain like the Fluid was too much. It passes quickly as the Fluid moves through. If I take a mouth-wet kind of sip, I have no problems. Could this be from swelling and will improve as I heal? Or, should I call my doctor?

Thanks kindly.

It will pass. I used to have to let it "marinate" in my mouth because I would forget "how BIG" of a sip I could take and if I gulped man would I catch it. It only happened a few times but I would feel it move down and I would just hold on to something.

But at almost 3 weeks out... I just noticed I can sip and almost gulp without any discomfort. I just assume it means the tummy swelling has diminished a bit.:)

I'm with you! 8 days out and my biggest frustration has not been able to gulp a big glass of ice Water. We'll get it! Its been interesting to learn how to listen to my body. I have spent years ignoring my body and it hasn't worked out so well...

It actually gets better and better. I can almost "guzzle" 2 to 3 swallows at once now at 10 weeks out.

I'm 8 days post-surgery and I remember the exact feeling you mention. I think it is related to the size of your sip, and it does get better.

Good luck!

I had my surgery on Feb. 1 and trust me it gets much easier. The hardest part is head hunger vs real hunger you will notice that you still serve yourself the same but can only eat a quarter of a meal ;0)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
