i have strep throat developed it this morning. i am not banded and this has nothing to do with the band. i have strep in the throat and a totally seperate infection that is in my right ear. i went to the er today. had a fever of 100 but felt way hotter and was in a lot of pain in my upper and lower back. they gave me a motrin, the prescribed a pain/antiinflamatory/fever reducer along with a fast acting antibiotic. broad spectrum.

i came home, got in a hot tub, and fell asleep. then came back to bed cause my fever was high again. I mean I am freezing!! and now i am experience intense pain from my neck to my ankles. honestly, the throat and ear are nothing compared to this. the pain comes in waves. i def have another fever, but then i will feel like my whole body is being twisted and stretched.

i don't want to go back in if it is just symptoms of a nasty fever. i can't get in touch with my doctor. opinions? ideas? i really need your help here.

Did you take a double dose of the antibiotic? That is becoming the preferred treatment for the FIRST dose of an antibiotic to spike the blood levels and attack the organism (bacteria). If you are feeling a lot worse, you might want to go to the ER for an IV dose of an antibiotic.

I am a medical lab tech but here is my two cents. I think that it is the fever. Pain from you neck to your ankles in waves is it like an ache? Your whole body fights off infection so your white cells are attacking any bacteria in your body. The antibiotics that you are taking is not only fighting infection but unfortunately it also kills off some of the good bacteria or normal flora that your body functions with day by day. The aching pains that your are having will go away when you get the antibiotic or whatever they gave you in your system good. I have lupus and I ache sometimes really bad. I find that rubbing tea tree oil on the spot where it aches helps a whole lot. Hope I have provided some insight or help.

That sounds like a z-pack. Take that as directed. As long as your fever does not go over 101.5 you should do OK. Take the Motrin for the pain and inflammation. If you're sensitive to Motrin, take some tylenol (850 mg).

hi,

sounds to me like you are having reffered pain from your ear infection and your body is trying to figure out how to fight it off. did your dr prescribe zithromax? usually a z-pak is given in 6 pill doses...take 2 the first day and 1 pill daily for 4 more days. you might need a different abx like amoxicllin (if your not allergic to pcn) or augmentin. you also might need need some steroids like a medrol dose pack to better help with the inflammation. did your dr prescribe you naproxen or naprosyn for your pain reliever? if he or she did, i would continue to take these and if you still can't break a fever take tylenol. i would recommend 650 mg every 4-6 hrs. if you are still in pain, i would ask for tylenol w/codeine elixir (if you are not allergic to codeine) and knock two birds out. also, keep yourself hydrated. report back on how things go.

the asprin made the fever break in about 10 minutes. i am still in pain, but it has gone from a 9 to a 3/4. and i realized how hungry i was too. LOL I am not sweating to death and the fever is controlled. i am not going to use that stuff anymore. it didn't do anything for me. it is motrin and tylenol from here on out

Hey Amy what was the pain med you took? You could have had a slight allergic reaction to the pain pills and that was how your body reacted. Fevers are nothing to fudge around with. If it goes back up then take more tylenol. Check your temp every 4 hours and take the tylenol if it is over 100.5 If it goes over 101.5 call or go to the ER.

Funnyduddies, Are you OK? I hope you are, I was hoping that you didn't have serum sickness. I had it once and I was caused by an antibiotic that I became allergic to. It makes you feel like you were hit by a truck and when you described that the body ached from top to bottom, that sounded a little too familiar. i also shook like crazy and my head felt like it was going to explode. I do hope you are better.

penni the pain meds were the generic version of Voltaren i have never heard of it before, but it did absolute diddly for me. never taking it again.

right now i am alternating tylenol and motrin, and just trying to keep my fever down so i don't get that racking pain. the only way i can descibe the pain was it was like really bad preg contractions only all over my body.

last night sucked. my fevers would come and go, and i was pretty much miserable all night. at one point rob woke meup cause my fever was back and i was sobbing in my sleep. I feel like such a baby LOL i have a pretty high tolerance to pain, so when i cry from pain, rob gets serious. he wanted to call an ambulance, but as soon as the motrin kicks in i start sweating profusly and the pain goes down to a steady dull ache. this morning my throat is much more swollen ,and much more painful, but one is red now instead of both being totally white and black. so that is a good sign. gonna gargle with a lot of hot salt Water today and see if tht kills some of the pain and swelling.

Amy,

Hope you're feeling better and now that the antibiotics have had a chance to get into your system, I sincerely hope they're fighting the good fight for you.

As for the fever and the pain, you mentioned alternating tylenol and motrin. When I read that, I thought of something we used to do in the hospital when a patient just couldn't keep a fever down. We alternated the tylenol and motrin, but did it every 2 hours. So that basically, you got tylenol every 4 hours and motrin every 4 hours but you were taking medicine every 2. Am I getting confusing? Here, I'll do a timeline:

8a tylenol

10a motrin

12p tylenol

2p motrin

4p tylenol

6p motrin

8p tylenol

10p motrin

get the picture? Since they're two different kinds of medications that work on both pain and fever, it won't hurt to do that. What happens is that while one is starting to wear off, the other is in full force. Double team this and you should feel better. You couldn't do this with aspirin and motrin together, they're related. But tylenol is different and you can do it with motrin or aspirin (preferably motrin).

Good Luck,

Well last night I was rushed to the ER after fainting on my stairs and tumbling down a slight ways. I was not hurt, but I was out cold. They determined I was servely dehydrated. 10 very painful IV sticks later they got a good line in and got me rehydrated. They also gave me morphine. Took care of my body aches and pains, but my throat was still in a lot of pain. And I still could not swallow anything, not even my own spit. So they made me gargle with benedryl to temp numb the tonsils, and gave me a percoset. Still lots of pain, but the edge is finally off. The swelling refuses to go down though. They think I have an abcess in both tonsils. So I have an appt with the ear nose and throat doctor at the Hospital to determine if removing my tonsils is necessary.

At this point I am say YES PLEASE RIP THESE THINGS OUT!!!! but i know that there are complications with abcessed tonsil removal that it might not be the most beneficial choice.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
