Hi there ... my name is John and I will be 62 years young next month. I'm about 300 lbs. Was on the RNY wait list for a long time and was constantly being told the surgery was "just around the corner". Anyway, I removed myself from the list and am in the process of looking into the Gastric Sleeve.

I don't regret my decision to take my name of the RNY list as I think the Sleeve may be a much safer option for me. I have quite a number of co-morbitities that I hope the Sleeve will address as I lose the weight. I do understand that it is just a tool but I think now I'm in a better frame of mind about losing the weight.

I'm going to be doing a lot of lurking and learning and in the process, hope to make some friends. This looks like a pretty good forum.

John

Welcome To VST John

Lurk and learn away, that is what I did before I was sleeved in January. There are alot of knowledgeable people here, ask all the questoins someone will likely have an answer.

Welcome John. I'm 56 and just had the sleeve done 3/3 and I'm feeling great. I had no nausea, did not take pain med after the 2nd day and going back to work on Monday (I did work 1/2 day from home Thurs and Friday). This is a great forum and you will get honest, experienced answers.

I notice many folks here saying they see their money spent as an investment. I should have mentioned here or you probably noticed, I am from Canada so I do not have to pay for the surgery. The only drawback is that there are long weight lists.

I'm not telling you this to brag about our system just to let you know that my surgery will not be forthcoming any time soon unless the doc decides to push it for health reasons.

Lord knows, our system needs alot of work!

I'm sure getting an education reading all these threads, thank you all so much for sharing your experiences.

John

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
