Preop diet started today

Recommended Posts

I had the scope done this morning. Thankfully that all came back well. When I left the hospital, my mom took me to Planet Nutrition and I got a Cookies and cream Protein Shake. I just looked it up online and it was 30 grams of protien. I'm nervous about this preop diet.

Then my mom and I were just talking and she's like, what if you have complications and the dr can't finish the procedure laproscopically? What happens? She's questioning me because when I had to have my gallbladder removed, my dr wasn't able to do it laproscopically. I did have to be cut open.

I will call my dr tomorrow to get answers but has this ever happened to anyone by chance?

There is a slight chance of open surgery for everyone. I had to sign a statement saying that I understood that risk, but my surgeon said it was highly unlikely and usually under high risk cases. Talk to your surgeon about your gallbladder surgery and what you might be able to expect.

Mini I did speak w/his nurse this am and she said he has never had a case where he ended up having to open a person up but that there is always a slight risk. I was just worried it would be more $$$ as I'm paying him up front on Monday. His nurse told me no that there would be no extra expense for that if it did happen.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
