Hi - can anyone suggest any books?

Recommended Posts

This is my first posting on here. (Hello All!) I had my sleeve op nine days ago and am pottering around, although I still have quite a lot of pain.

I ordered loads of books from Amazon before surgery, about weight loss surgery - but none of them really say much about VSG. They all seem to be aimed at banders or by-passers.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please (it will probably have to be online shopping for now ... oh, and I'm in the UK).

Love to hear from you.

Thanks

Tiaras xx

Hi, thanks for the warm welcome.

There's nothing specific at the moment (all though I'm sure there will be!) it just irritates me slightly that all th books I've bought about WLS have really only covered bands or bypasses. Sleeves really seem to get very little mention.

I know what you mean about most WLS books being too old to mention the sleeve. I did find one book called The Idiot's Guide to Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery that talks about the sleeve. It has a lot of good recipes too.

If you can get hold of this book, I HIGHLY recommend it. Talks about the issues around emotions, weight, surgery, etc. I got a copy relatively cheap on Half.com however, it is hard to get hold of on Amazon, and is quite expensive. Hopefully you find this helpful:

I'm actually going to sell my copy. I thumbed through it, read the small sections I needed, and figure since it's so hard to find, selling it might be useful to someone out there... Here's a link to it on Half.com (I listed mine under "like new" to be 100% honest... I did look at it, but no bends, no dogears, etc.):

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
