Hello everyone. I am new to the site and have my airfare for March 29th but have not seen much about my doc on here. dr. verboonen is doing my surgery on 3/30. I am probably going alone, I don't want anyone to know because ever since my husband died in a car accident 12 years ago, everyone watches and tells me how I am living my life wrong. My only friend near where I live, wants to do lap band, she says I don't need it because my BMI is only 31, but I tell her I am getting it because of my health. Well... kinda for the looking and feeling better too...

I am hoping to meet some people on here, offer my help and support where I can, and hopefully get some support and guidance from those of you who can tell me what to expect and how to prepare!

Hugs.

Jen :drool5:

Hi Jen, welcome and congrats for making the decision to help yourself reach an important goal. Sorry about your husband and that your friends are judging you so critically. My daughter treats me in such a way and it's annoying but she probably means well.

Where are you traveling to for your surgery? I have not heard of your doctor before.

I live alone, but I had the support of my parents and other family members but I found solutions here for some issues I had to face post surgery. The people in this forum have been instrumental in helping me overcome some of my own personal challenges while recovering from my sleeve surgery. I hope you will check in often, make friends, and benefit as you move through your weight loss journey.

Just a little advice, don't get the band! I don't know anyone who is happy with theirs, I certainly was not happy. The sleeve is night and day difference, I wish that I would have done this first.

good luck to you! Bernadette

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
