Introducing new foods too fast??

Recommended Posts

It wasn't so much not feeling full - I did feel full after the liquids but I was weak. I needed something heavier. I do eat very slow - especially if I am trying something new. I was very scared to try eggs after so many people talked about not being able to keep them down. My stomach gurgled but it stayed down just fine.

I agree that every doctor is going to have a different opinion. And that is one reason I was asking. I wondered if there were any items that truly would be a risk. I don't want to push my luck too far.

However, everyone is different. I have had 8 surgeries prior to this one and have never had a long recovery time. I also have not taken pain meds after the first couple of days. I read someone had morphine after their sleeve surgery and it really surprised me. It certainly wasn't something I needed. But I also delivered three 9+lb babies without any pain meds so everyone also has a different pain threshold.

I thought seeds were bad so was surprised to see strawberries on one diet list. I also thought I had read no milk yet it seems to be included on several lists.

I have had a sensitive stomach for several years and it got worse when my gall bladder was removed so was already taking omeprazole (generic prilosec). I can't imagine having chili settle so had to laugh when it was the first thing a couple of people ate at a restaurant! That would have done me in!

Anna - the gas-x strips are great! It helped with the gas and also served as a "treat" for the first day with no liquids or ice. LOL

Yeah, being weak is a common thing especially the first month or so. If you're willing to take the risk to feel better about it to get through the day then no one can tell you different.

I think everyone has to choose their own path. I just hope no one has to walk halfway down my path because of something that is preventable.

I know it sucks, honestly I do. And, I hope you know that it's strictly out of concern and care when these posts are made, and I give my honest opinion on it based on what I've been through, and what I've seen other people deal with.

I'm on Protonix. I never had reflux prior to surgery. I had surgery on a Wednesday and on Friday night I woke up every half hour with what felt like acid in my throat/mouth. Not pleasant at all. I email my doc who suggested sleeping more elevated. I did that for a week and never had another episode of reflux. Now I can sleep flat, even on my stomach and I'm fine.

Oh YAY!! My NUT moved me to pureed foods starting tomorrow! I'm quite excited to get more nutrition.

PNW, I understand hungry. I got hungry on day 10 and I've been that way since. I started getting a little afraid that I would be one of the hungry ones, then realized that on pureed I'll start feeling full again. The funny thing is that regardless of how hungry I got, 1/2 cup of greek yogurt and I was full. I think it's great that you're re-evaluating your eating and will give you sleeve time to heal.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
