you'll definitely won't regret it, plus you won't have the urge to eat a big meal, and you'll love the weight loss. of course it's a bit difficult at the beginning, but like everything we need to work hard in order for it to be a success. do you have an idea of a doctor?

I've been going through the program at the Emory Clinic here in Atlanta. I have a few paperwork things to get lined up then I'll meet with the surgeon. I'm hopeing that my insurance will cover it, if not...then I may be Mexico bound.

I'm really proud of you BigKahuna! You are going to love seeing how quickly you lose weight. . I do! I think it's so cool. . . 53 lbs are gone from me already within 7 weeks, that used to take almost 6 - 7 months the old traditional way. . .i go back for a doctors appt on March 16 and am hoping for at least a 10 lb loss. . . we'll see . . anyhow best of luck on your journey!

Kahuna,

Get the surgery done and don't look back. I've lost 130 pounds since 3/09, had surgery 7/28/09. I am still able to eat all of the same things, just less. Like someone said, I feel like I'm now eating the amount "normal" people do. My favorite was Chinese buffets! Man could I pig out at them. Now instead of going to the buffet I'll order a regular dinner, eat about half of it (and half the egg roll) and take the rest home and have it for lunch, and sometimes dinner the next day. I think my dogs are the happiest because they usually get the leftovers after a couple days. I just feel so fortunate that I was able to get the VSG. I really think it will be the "gold standard" for weight loss surgery in the near future.

I actually have the opposite problem as you, Kahuna. I'm a fairly large man (6'1, very broadly built), so people always expected me to have a "hearty appetite." The problem is that that hearty appetite has bulked me up to 335 pounds (BMI 42) and serious health problems. On the "pigging out" front, I WANT to eat less, because one odd thing about being obese is that I've always felt self-conscious when eating around others. I feel like the giant portions I consume must really be off-putting to watch. So I avoid eating out in fear of this! So, I'm actually looking forward to being able to feel really satisfied with a small to "normal" sized portion. Plus, of course, getting rid of the aches and pains, CPAP, and other health concerns, as well as really feeling like I look fit and healthy again... THAT, I can't WAIT for! (Wouldn't mind getting my sex drive back, either... ;) )

Not trying to be rude but one fellow at a support meeting said the best thing about weight loss surgery for men is that you can see your penis again .. LOL

I'm just new to the sleeve journey .. waiting for my first appointment.

HAH... I've wondered about that. Would be a nice confidence builder to not have this giant shelf of gut between me and one of the last reminders that I'm really, actually a male!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
