Day 6 of Oxycodone 3x a day

Recommended Posts

My doc initially gave me loratab hydrocodone which, I'm pretty much immune to. When to see him Monday and he prescribed the above. I've had so much site pain, I have taken now for day 6, the pain meds 3x a day to manage the pain level. I'm concerned about my pain lasting this long and the effects of the the meds on my stomach. Any thoughts? Did any of you stay on pain meds this long? Thanks in advance...

Tennessee, I had major dental work a few years ago. They put me on oxycodone. I took 1 pill the first day, 2 pills the second day. On the third day I didn't take one and felt like I wanted to die. My skin was crawling, I was crying and was really rattled. A friend of mine recognized the signals of withdrawal and brought me a Valium to counteract it. I remember that it was a hot summer day so she took me to a movie matinee to be in the air-conditioning. It took me most of the day to come down from the oxy withdrawal. I'm telling you this in case you experience withdrawal because it's very frightening. It's not a drug that you can just stop. Ask your doctor for help coming off it and please be careful. You may not feel like yourself for a day or two afterwards. I know that I'm very sensitive to drugs, but I couldn't believe how potent that drug was.

I don't think I've ever read where anyone had this much pain for such an extended amount of time. I don't know the effects of this drug on your stomach, but I know that it can be very physically addicting.

Please be careful.

What exactly is hurting? Is it the incision sites, muscular, etc? If you aren't sure why the doctor prescribed the medication & dosage, I would suggest calling his office on Monday. Your doctor should be able to explain his prescription and if you still have concerns, discuss alternatives.

Good luck!

As a result of a condition I have (psuedo tumor cerebri) I have taken lots of hyrdrocodone (loratab) to control my pain since I was diagnosed. As a result, I think I have developed a tolerancy to it, so when I was prescribed that for this surgery, my body just laughed at it I think. Therefor, my doc prescribed the oxycodone which I am taking now to manage the pain.

I continue to experience stinging/burning pain near an incision. I think it is a muscle that is trying to heal, but not certain. I CANNOT and donnot dare bend over, but I have progressed to not having to hold my stomach when I walk. I can point to the pain spot. If that spot would heal, I'd be great! Tiffy, I was wondering how long the average persons heal time was. I know everyone heals differently and it takes some time to heal completly, but to be able to heal to a comfort spot would be nice. I have my 2 week follow up this Tuesday. I'm anxious to see what he has to say.

Even with my complications, I was pretty much pain free within 7 days. Now, I could not sleep in bed because I couldn't use my ab muscles to get up and down. But, I could walk quite a bit once I got home. I had zero issue getting in and out, up and down out of my recliner. I had 2 surgeries within 48 hours, and I'm truly concerned that something else is going on internally for you because for you to be in this pain, it just doesn't sound like the normal twinges of post-op discomfort.

Tiffy,

I just requested you on FB:) I have been worried that this is something else also, but scared to wonder at the same time. We have a Paul Bunyon bed I couldn't get into if I wanted so I spend most of my time in the recliner. It still takes my breath to get up or down. I wondered initally if I had an incisional hernia. My 14 yr old has helped me sooo much with all my mommy jobs. Thank God for her! She'll be super excited to see me feeling better soon:) I don't want to be a complainer, but this is very frustrating and disheartning ya know?

Wow Tenn. . . I have pseudo tumor cerebri myself, I don't ever recall that much pain, just constant nagging headaches 24/7. But fortunately tylenol was enough to cure my pains . . did you not have a shunt placement done already? With all that pain they should have done it. . . I had my shunt done and like a miracle the pain was gone. . . maybe you check into getting that fixed huh? Good luck

Oh wow! You have PTC too? I'm sorry. I was diagnosed almost 3 yrs ago. I have always had headaches and one came one day and progressivly got worse. I thought I had a headache and a crick in my neck. I woke one morning in extreme pain and unable to move my head at all. I don't remember my opening pressure but it was a weeks hospital stay w/ 3 in ICU. No shunt for me. I'm too scared I think. I've seen a few nueros and 2 of them feel they are more trouble than they're worth w/ post placement issues. Have you had any trouble? My current nuero wants me to but I continue to to pass and do the lumbar punctures which I despise and Diamox. My PCP thinks my symptoms will subside once I lose the weight. But no, my pain has been terrible with PTC.

I'm having a bad day today. I can look past the moment and see a better day coming to me soon, but as for today, I'm very irritated that I'm still in pain. I quit taking the oxycodone and started liquid tylenol and honestly the tylenol seems to manage the pain just as well. I see everyone feeling back to themselves 4-5 days after; I'm 10 days postop am healing at a turtles pace. Imagine your boob being stiched to your navel, then try to walk uprightly once you've had some tissue to heal. That feeling you would get as a result is the feeling I have anytime I am not sitting in my recliner. WTH? I went to the mall with my family and had to be wheeled around the Galleria. My teenagers loved wheeling mom around:) Besides feeling good, excersise would speed my loss 10 fold. Sorry for the rant. There isn't anything anyone can do. Can't wait to see my doc tomorrow.

I am at work and I started laughing so hard that everybody came into my office to see what I was laughing about.

The boob stitched to your navel thing.

LOLOL!!

I am so sorry that you are in pain still though.

I bet you have a hernia.

I am praying for you TN!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
