Finding the time to stop

Recommended Posts

I'm on purees right now and still trying to find the right place to stop eating. It seems like I go from OK to Stuffed in one bite. I'm trying to eat slowly and thoughfully.

Any advice?

I was sleeved 4 days after you and I am having a similar problem. I was told to eat in 30 minutes, because if you take longer you'll just end up eating more. I get the oh I'm full feeling very quickly maybe 5 or 6 minutes into a meal. I know what you mean about suddenly being full, I think we're just on a learning curve right now.

I used the kid's OTC medicine 1 ounce measuring cups to measure my food during the full liquids, and mushy stage. I also ate with a baby spoon, sat at the kitchen table, and set the spoon down in between bites. I chewed mushies as well because really digestion starts with chewing.

I made sure to take at least 20 minutes to eat my 2 ounces. It's very trying on your patience, but for me it's what worked.

Mini - I'm with you. I honestly feel like I am able to consue too much. For Breakfast I can eat 2 sscrambled eggs with cheese and still want more and know I can eat more. lunch - 3 meatballs and 1/2 cup of sauce, snack - a shake and dinner - 1/2 cup of turkey chilli along with 2 tsps of sour cream, 2 tsps of guacamole and 2 tsps of salsa....I was full afterwards, but I'm just so surprised since my doc told me my stomach was small to begin with, so my sleeve is really small....I suppose I'm a medical miracle....LOL

Bambi,, you are a miracle.. lol.. I don't think you need to worry about it. You are just one of the lucky ones. If you are eating only 1/2 cup, I dont' think you have to worry about gaining weight.. I read where our sleeve will hold 8-12 ozs eventually, then we would be eating almost like a normal person...

Bambi thank God you said something, I feel like I can eat too much also! When I read about where people are at this stage, some still just doing liquids and I can have an egg and toast, 1/2 c chili, yogurt, some chicken breast I feel like it's too much. You're right though Loser, I keep saying I can eat too much and my family is looking at me like I'm nuts because proportionally it's still a miniscule amount. I suppose we're the lucky ones, I get a little nervous reading others posts about how much they can't eat.

Ok so here was breakfast this morning...2 eggs, 1 slice cheese and 3 brown and serve turkey sausage.....I'm full, but certainly not needing to lay down and undo my jeans full.....Seems like a lot of food for me to be eating, however, it is 25g Protein, 195 calories and 6 carbs....

I'm not going to worry too much about it, but I really do think it's odd that I can eat so much and others can barely choke down a shake....

Thanks for all the reassurance!!!

I am jealous!! You are one day ahead of me. I had surgery on 1-28 and I started my mushie phase last week Wednesday and I can barely get anything down. I tried eggs last night- scrambled with spinach and couldnt do it.

I feel so frustrated!!

I guess I just need to stick with liquids longer?

Happy for you though!!

I tried a scrambled egg for breakfast yesterday. I ate about 1/2 before I started feeling warm, lightheaded and woozy. I've heard that a lot of people have trouble with eggs, but Idon't know why. But nut suggested that I try other foods and then come back to eggs in a week or two.

I still have a really hard time with scrambled eggs, but can eat hard-boiled eggs diced up on salads, or egg-salad with mayo and mustard. Deviled eggs are super yummy, and go down great.

Today, I bought an egg poacher for the microwave. I want to give it a whirl and see if I can tolerate poached eggs on toast. I used to eat them when I was pregnant, and figured it'd be a good way to get in a little extra Protein.

In regards to quantities while on pureed foods. (or any stage for that matter)

Just because you CAN eat more than you should, doesn't mean you SHOULD eat as much as you do. liquids, Puree'd and mushie food stages probably won't give you a strong "STOP" signal.

Measure the portion you're told to have by your surgeon. Put the extra food away. Go eat your food, slowly, thoughtfully, savoring the tastes and don't go back for more! No liquids after your meal for minimum 30 minutes.

Follow the simple rules and you'll simply be amazed.

Tracey - Thanks. My problem is that I do measure everything out. I try to eat slowly and thoughtfully, but then WHAM! I go from one bite being fine to all of the sudden having this horrible full feeling and pain between my shoulder blades.

MiniMe,

Longer time between bites will help with that. And since it seems to happen despite measuring your food, measure and then take one teaspoon of food out of your portion. You might not be able to tolerate the portion yet, eventually you will. Whatever you can do to avoid the "WHAM"!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
