When is Egg Drop Soup OK?

Recommended Posts

I know I need to ask this of my coordinator but would like to get y'all opinions on this. I love to make egg drop Soup with the eggbeaters and wondering how soon after I am sleeved can I get back to it? What about adding ground black pepper?

TIA,

Pennie

I would think having it in the pureed stage would be fine...you'd just still want to chew the egg good. Do double-check that with your nutritionist though. :)

You could do egg drop Soup on your liquid/full liquid stage if you strain the egg out and on mushies "as is." Black pepper is fine as long as your tummy doesn't react to it. Everyone is different when it comes to spices; and what may not have bothered you pre-surgery may post -- you just have to experiment and see how you do with it.

Egg Drop Soup is the ONLY thing that hasn't agreed with my tummy so far. I made the recipe from the recipe thread here last night for dinner (I'm in mushie stage) and I only ate 2 oz and had a tummy ache most of the night. That's so disappointing to me as I love Egg Drop soup. I'll definitely try it again later because from what I've read, sometimes your tummy changes and you can tolerate things you didn't in the beginning.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
