Is hungry, hungry and full,full

Recommended Posts

I have been on preop diet for about 2.5 weeks. Today I went into a mall and the food smell and my hunger made me almost insane. I started thinking,, soon I won't get the hungry feeling or the craving when I smell yummy food,,,, or will I? ... I also thought about how many of those fresh bbq ribs I could eat right now,, and then thought; pretty soon I won't be able to eat but one maybe two delicious ribs because my sleeve will be full. Will I feel full or will it be just that my sleeve is full? Will I feel satisfied, or just not want to eat another rib because it will hurt, or just fill up my throat and not go down...?

Thanks :)

Well I am only a couple weeks out and the smell of good food is hard to handle, all the commercials, watching everyone around me eat, fast food signs, etc. were killing me in the beginning. The good thing is that I do get full easily, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to finish all my food because it tastes so good. That's why I'm overweight in the first place, so I guess this is where our sleeve stops our insanity along with some good old fashioned will power!! It is hard to make such a huge change, and it will take time for your mind to catch up to your new stomach as far as how much you can safely manage vs. how much we used to be able to shovel in...lol! Your doing great on your liquid diet, what is your surgery date?

I am at 5 1/2 weeks and let me tell you, I cannot STAND to eat anymore. Nothing tastes as good as it once did and after a few bites, I am done. I just made a morningstar foods riblet for my dinner tonight and the smell was wonderful. Too bad I could only eat half of it and gave it to the kids. It was yummy but too after a few bites I was no longer hungry. It's funny, I spend so much time looking up recipes and nutritional values of food and then when it comes time to eat it, I can't. I can't even get in 500 calories a day yet. No way I will be fat for long....LOL!!!

Angel, My surgery date is Feb 1st, one week from yesterday. Thanks for the reply.

MrNickSr,, thank you, that sounds pretty good, that nothing tastes as good as it once did. I told my doctor a long time ago, if he would just give me a pill or a shot that would make food taste bad or no flavor, I could keep the weight off.. He said there is no such thing. So I guess the sleeeve is as close as I am going to get.. When you get full is it a satisfied full feeling, or is it more like you feel your sleeve is full and you know not to put anything else in?

Thanks

I'm six weeks out (yesterday). In the last week I've lost my appetite a bit or have been too busy to eat and just forget. When I prepare things, they taste ok, I pre-measure my portion and don't attempt to eat until "full". It's pretty easy to exercise willpower in my current state. I've avoided really great "smelling" places...lol.

To answer your question, in the beginning while your sleeve is healing you'll feel uncomfortable after just 2 or 3 bites. Once the sleeve heals and the swelling goes down, you should be able to eat anything you want, and you will know you're finished when you start to feel a bit of pressure. If you push it, you'll start to feel the food in your throat. It really helps to measure your food to 1/4 or 1/2 a cup and just eat that and stop.

I don't measure, I just get small portions on a small saucer and then stop when I feel that first sign of pressure even tho I know I could get in another couple bites easily.

You don't need all that food, you are stronger than your stomach. . . fight it, your going to come out winning! Good luck! Read my signature, its so true!

no lauramomof3, your not stupid, don't say that, your human. . . it's what makes us who we are. . you are a great person whose lost 53 lbs already in 6 short weeks! How wonderful is that. . i could suggest this for you, it's just head hunger, when you feel like eating something, stop and listen to your tummy. . . are you really hungry? No. . then drink something pleasant like flavored water, gatoraid, milk, coffee, tea, fuze slenderize (those are soooo good and only something like 10 calories) our bodies can't tell the difference between hunger and thirst, most times it's thirst and not hunger but we as humans mistaken it as hunger and eat. . . so next time you reach for that cracker or chip, think first if maybe your poor body isn't just thirsty and enjoy a drink of something. . . good luck. . .

Loser, I am 4 days out and I'm dealing with my head hunger. I'm counting down the days to full liquids. I just need some texture in my mouth. I know I can't be hungry because it takes me the whole morning to drink 32 ounces of Water. But when I made my husband chicken on the grill tonight my mouth watered. I'm sticking it out though! I'm having dreams too. Last night I dreamed I ate a biscuit with roast beef and potatoes. (not even my favorite food) After one bite I started freaking out cause I knew I wasn't suppose to be eating any solid food. I'm sure it will go away if I press through! Good luck on the will power!

Many good comments have been made on this thread. So true, the new stomach lets you know right away what is good or bad for your situation. My head tells me one thing and my stomach can tell me a totally different thing. I learned real quick that anything too sweet or too greasy is very hard for my new stomach to tolerate. Also if I overeat I have to stop eating right away or it really feels uncomfortable and I feel like I am going to vomit. I try to get in 3 meals and I have some Snacks. I try to eat healthier snacks such as Nuts, Sun chips, frozen lowfat Yogurt ect... If I have too much to eat at a meal, I save part of it and wait until the feeling of being too full goes away then I eat the rest when I feel better. I can only eat about 1 1/2 oz. then I start feeling uncomfortable, stop eating and in about 15-30 minutes I can finish another 1 1/2 oz. or so for a total of about 3 oz. for one meal. For an example, the diet menu Fresco Ranchero chicken soft taco at Taco Bell is one of my favorite and I can only eat half of it and then I can eat the rest of it in 15-30 minutes. That is a big change from my usual 3-5 tacos before the surgery.

The surgery sure took away my stomach hunger. I eat now because I know that I need to eat or I am trying to get more Protein. Before surgery I felt hungry most of each day. I wanted to eat and wanted to really eat alot of what tasted real good. But now that I have had the sleeve everything is so different. I do still have my moments, but they are less than before and I am learning more and more everyday.

I wish you all the best. It all does get easier as time goes by, especially when you can eat regular foods instead of the milkshakes and liquids.

Loser, you will definatley feel full, even bloated.

Laura, it is not stupid, it is habit. I have a hard time too. My kids had friends over and I snuck 1 stupid BBQ chip and it tasted so good.....until it hit my new tummy. Then it hurt like a b*tch! LOL!!! I have not tried any since! I also ate a couple pieces of candy they brought home one day, some new chewable nerd eggs. Since I eat so little now, my sugar went berserk and I was in bed the rest of the day. Now everytime I see candy I think of how THAT felt. These are the habits that got us here in the first place and now we have a wonderful tool to help us break them!

Good luck!

That is a slippery slope dear. Please back away from the Snacks. What you need to do is go back to liquids for about 2 days and that will clean your body from the carbs. Then put yourself on a schedule of eating. If you tackle the hunger before you feel it, your sleeve will work for you.

Example:

8am: egg and cheese

10:30am: a nice crunchy apple

1pm: tuna salad with a couple reduced fat crackers

3:30pm: yogurt and a few carrot sticks

6pm: chicken breast with garlic and parmeasan and some brocolli.

8:30pm: celery with Peanut Butter and a cup of Soup

During the day drink tons of crystal lite and Decaf tea. You don't have to count every calorie that goes into your mouth, but you DO have to have a good plan full of crunchy healthy Snacks and stop bringing the junk into the house. If you have to have something sweet do low cal ice cream or some fruit. If you have to have something crunchy have carrots, cucumbers, pickles. If you want something salty, have 5 olives or a couple pork skins.

You can do this!!

Many thanks to all I am back into following through with this.

Bigdd, I am going to Dr Alvarez Feb 1st for a good sleeving. Thanks for the feedback. That is good news. Good to hear I am not the only one that almost said the hell with it I love food to much.. lol... It is great to hear your doing well, hope to meet you at one of his annual get togethers.

MrNickSr, thank you sir. That is what I was hoping for, that full bloated feeling, rather than just a full sleeve. I think I was really close to calling it off, but thanks to everyone for convincing me to stay the course. I sometimes feel guilty about spending this much money on myself, so when I have doubts I think of the things I could buy for my daughter or the house and a host of other things, rather than spending it on myself.

Josephine thanks for that meal plan, ,, yummy,, it all sounds so good right now. A few weeks ago it would not have thought so, but after being on this diet so long, just a pickle with a cracker would be sooooo goood..

Tracey. a loss of appetite sounds great. would love to have to remind myself to eat. Thank you.

ThinOneDay,,LOL.. Thanks, Lets kick some fat, caloric ass.. :>),, very nice..

Amerigirl, you have taken the big brave step, wtg. Many thanks for sharing with us.

MtnLover, Thank you for sharing your experiences and your well wishes.

LauraMomof3, Eating Snacks is not stupid, we just have an addiction. You have taken the brave step and put yourself through pain and misery to obtain the tool. You are going to do well. I have read to many posts of others having their moments, but getting through them and having great success. Thank you for sharing with us.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
