Sleeping better after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I generally sleep like crap, waking up and rolling over MANY times during the night... I know I snore but don't wake myself snoring in bed (like I do if I fall asleep in a chair or flat on my back), so I don't think it's an apnea issue waking me. I think it's a combination of eating too much before bed and either being uncomfortable from that OR from heartburn/reflux, or just being generally uncomfortable in one position for too long because of my weight.

Acid issues aside, do you find that you sleep better now after surgery?

Stacy, I got a band in 2006 and was sleeved this past Friday. Before WLS I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and was using a C-PAP machine. Without the machine my sleep was terrible - waking up all night, snoring, etc. After I lost 50lbs the apnea went away and I slept much better. Losing the weight will most likely help quite a bit with your sleep issues.

If you still have problems after losing a bit of weight don't hesitate to talk to your doctor and ask for a sleep study. If you do have sleep apnea it is a very dangerous thing. I have a friend whose 23-yr old son died from it (yes, he was overweight).

Best wishes!

funny you bring this up. Yes, I'm only 2 weeks out but have definitly noticed I'm sleeping better. Less waking up than before. I used to not even set my alarm for work in the morning because I'd always wake up enough that I did not need it. Now the alarm is waking me up (that may be a mixed blessing)

Not sure the reasons for this. I've lost almost 30 lbs so maybe that is it. But I'm grateful for the more restful sleep. less tossing and turning.

I definitely sleep more peacefully after the weight loss. I hardly ever wake up in a different position than how I fell asleep.

I'm a side sleeper always have been, but it's been cool because I can now sleep on my back comfortably.

Awesome!! That's one of the things I'm looking forward to the most... sleeping better. Jeez, there are so many things I'm looking forward to LOL!

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
