Sleeved on Dec 21. Lost 20 lbs but stalling.... please help

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I got sleeved on Dec 21 and in about 10 days lost over 20 pounds. But now stalling and gained 8 lbs. So from 264 I went down to 242 and am now at 251.

Am on very low carbs, 80 gms protien, about 800 calories per day. Walk for over a mile a day.

Am feeling very depressed since the weight gain. Hope the stall is normal. I do want to lose weight !:)

I had the same problem and it lasted about 2 weeks. I sent a email to my contact person and this is what she told me and it makes sense

"....please don't be a slave to your scale, only weigh once per week...your body needs this time to adjust to the weight loss you have had thus far and you will have weeks that you may not lose any weight...I have had stalls for as long as 5 weeks....it is just your body adjusting, trust me, it doesn't like to give up the fat...give it time and please be patient. This is going to work for you so just go about your daily business and let the sleeve do it's thing, remember you did not put the weight on overnight, nor will it come off overnight. :sad0: "

Also, I just wanted to add here, that my doc says that sometimes 800 calories isn't enough for all body types. He said that a cookie cutter diet works for 80% of people (i.e. Low carb, 80 g Protein, 800 calories and water), but that sometimes we need more food to lose, and told me for the next week to take it around 1000 (especially since I have been working out). Sounds like you workout too, maybe try it. He told me to kick start my loss again by taking it back to basics: Protein shakes twice a day and 2 other small Protein healthy meals. He told me within a week I should see some weight, but that with me 20 lbs in a couple weeks, same as you, that this is a great loss, and if you look at the big picture, you are 20 lighter in ONE MONTH! Stalls will happen, they are normal, I challenge you to not look at the scale until next Monday. See if caloric increase (small) helps...

AND, trust me I know how it feels to stall, after we see such big numbers, but in the long run this has to work, we are not eating near what we did to get us fat, so it will come off. Just keep positive, stressing about it can hold onto the weight, ASK anyone on here, they have seen me freaking out for the past week! I have been where you are and have decided to let it work for me and like my doctor said, "enjoy the ride!" don't stress.

So, cheers and good luck and stay positive!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
