Secrets to success

Recommended Posts

I'm starting the process to being banded, have my consult with the surgeon next week. :clap2: Anyway, I'm sitting here getting more paranoid that this is one more diet attempt that I'm going to fail at. I want it to work, I intend to follow all the rules, and am trying to get ready for lifestyle changes. But, I'm still nervous. Some of you have great stats and I'd love to hear the secrets to your lap band success. :)

I want to do this right! So what tips, secrets, changes seem to work best for you and help you lose the weight?

I think you'll find they're as many and varied as are everyone's personalities.

What works for me - not dieting. Eating when I'm hungry till I'm not hungry and within reason eating whatever I feel like eating. Even if its not the healthiest choice. I've lost fairly steadily and I find I no longer think about food and what I am/am not going to eat, every second of the day.

And I believe in the benefits of doing more than just walking round the block and getting into some real blood pumping, sweat inducing stuff both for weight loss and your mood/outlook. Although obviously that's one to tackle in stages as you feel able.

I agree. I don't diet anymore (not that I ever did it successfully anyway). I just eat when my body says it is hungry and stop the minute I am full. I do stay away from fried foods which don't go down very easy anyway. Things like bread I limit, no sodas, so it just works. I have always like exercising so that combined with less in take really works.

I have tried every diet out there. I actually gained weight religiously following Weight Watchers. This has been wonderful. I definitely recommend it. It is one of the safest thing you can do and you have so much control over the size of your final restriction. I am finally losing weight. When discussing with my Dr. the differences in my responses to meds. or things, she said you finally have a metabolism! I couldn't be happier with my decision even though everything has not been perfect.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
