Post op period concerns (TMI)

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 12/24. I was supposed to get my period this upcoming Friday. This past Friday (1 week early) I started having very very dark brown discharge. And a fair amount of it. It is still here, but now I notice more red (sorry again for the TMI!)

Is this normal? Has anyone had anything like this happen?

I have had this happen prior to any sort of surgery. In fact, I once had this glob come out that was all blood (about the size of my palm!)... This is normal. It is excess lining along your uterus that seperated as a whole instead of seeping out as usual. I wouldn't worry about it this month. However, if next month you still get large discharge, I would call you GYN just in case. You may get small little globlets, like bubbles next month, but you should have a large discharge for a bit. I only have had this happen 2 or 3 times in my period history...

I was sleeved on Dec 14 and had the same experience with my first menstrual cycle after surgery. It came early, weird discharge for a few days first, then a pretty heavy cycle. I think it's your body telling you it has been stressed by major surgery and every part of your body is responding to the challenge. Perfectly normal.

Thank goodness for these posts. I was very worried! My period started 10 days early (only 3 days post-op) and its HEAVY and still going pretty strong 6 days later (my whole period is usally 5 days). Guess I'm in for a 7 day cycle this month. On the upside, I had no cramps and no other discomforts of the usual lady visitor. Outside of its appearance at all, its actually been relatively pleasant. Glad we can chat about these things openly and help each other.

This thing definitely wreaks havoc with your hormones! I've been getting more irregular anyway over the last couple of years... it might come at three weeks, it might come at 5 weeks, it might be light and even, it might be heavy and look like globs of grape jelly (gross, I know, sorry). But still, it's generally within a week of when it's supposed to be here.

I went into surgery totally expecting to come out gushing, since so many people say that's what happens even if you're not due. Well, I was already a week late, and never even did get it at all that month... we skipped over January altogether! February came on schedule.... March came on schedule... and then two weeks after that, here she was again. It's annoying, BUT, I take it as a good sign than I'm losing lots of fat and stored estrogen in the process! :wink1:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
