IUD anyone?

Recommended Posts

I have had my IUD for 7yrs now. Mine is a 10 year. I have to say that when I first had it inserted I thought that maybe I had made the wrong choice. I had a lot of cramping for a couple of days and my periods were awful. I was put on the pill for a few months, just to get my periods under contral. But after that, what a blessing it has been. I love not having to worry @ taking a pill or changing a patch. It has been very reliable. I have had no problems. I get my period like every 3-5 months and when I do get it, it last like 2-3 days.

Good luck with your decision.

Do you have to be on your period to have the Mirena inserted, like with the other IUD's? Did you notice weight gain when you first had it inserted.I need to seriously look into a good birth control.Twice I have lost lots of weight and both times,I got pregnant.Don't even want to go there now that I'm banded.I have too much invested in this band right now.Anyways I already have my 4 kids that's all I'll ever need.

Since i have had my IUD in...the Mirena I have had a very hard time losing my weight with my band, feel bloated all the time, have really oily skin, and am constantly moody/depressed.....I have read many many message boards and found many many many women in my shoes (obviously not with the band too...but with the Mirena) ....I since have gotten my IUD out and already feel like a new person...

Any MD that tells you your weight gain etc has nothing to do with your IUD is a crock. I don't care how small the amt. of hormone is......hormones are hormones, and if you were sensitive to them on the pill, most likely you are going to be with the Mirena....will never never get an IUD again...wish I would have done more research on this before...I am also an RN and ususally look into this kind of stuff...but didn't put the weight gain and moodiness together until I came across other message boards on the Mirena....beware!

Anyone here have an IUD? I've been on birth control for the past 20 years, and have had lots of trouble with bleeding - up to 3 weeks each month lately - past 5 years or so. I have PCOS too - on metformin and currently on yasmin birth control to try to control it, but not a lot of luck. Anyway, after a recent visit to a brand new gynecologist (new and very very young!) she thinks I should get off the pill and try the IUD - will help, I guess, with all the bleeding. A last ditch effort before talking about a hysterectomy. I'm a little nervous about the pain from the insertion......anyone have any comments on this? I'd appreciate it!

Amy

I have considered the IUD only because I can not take hormonal Birth Control due to Chronic Migraines. BC with hormones make them worse. if your doc is talking hysto ONLY For treatment of PCOS get SECOND , THIRD Opinion. Hysto's are NOT approved for PCOS treatment. Trust me I TRIED lol I Tried to get my gyn to give me one , I do not want anymore children , I figured, the parts I do have do not work and are painful with periods so why keep them . I am not sure of your age but im 31 and my docs response was " EVEN if you were 55 I would NOT give you a hysto due to PCOS its NOT a treatment for it and Its NOT a reason to give someone a Hysto " Now if your having other issues like endometriosis or something that is a different story . But I actually searched for docs that WOULD give me one for PCOS and None would . NOW alot had to do with my age they didnt want me on Hormone replacements so early , I can take natrual hormones and it not affect my migraines ( so they say ) . But good luck

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
