I'm consideriing surgery with Dr. Aceeves and I'm trying to figure out if I should have the surgery when I'm off for Spring Break or should I wait until I'm off for Summer. Spring Break I'm off for a week. Summer I'm off for 2 months. My job is an office job so I won't be lifting anything. Spring Break is Monday -Friday in March. Would it be bad to go to Mexico during Spring Break time? It's not the same spring break as the college students. I think it's later. I'm very active soI'm not sure about the pain level after the surgery. I'm sure it's different for everyone. I'm thinking I would be more relaxed if I wait until summer. My job involves a lot of paperwork which is mentally draining, it could can be stressful at times. I'm not sure what to do. Oh!! I have a wonderful 2 yr old son that will turn 3 on Valentine's Day. My mom would have to keep him. Please help!!!!! :scared0:

Joy,

If you've got help with the 2 yr old, then go whenever you can get great airfares to San Diego. I'm going back to work 7 days after surgery and I've talked to many people that do the same. The biggest problem is that your body feels the need to nap (because of the huge decrease in calories). Spring break is very doable if there are no complications. If there are complications then summer break would be the best. If you can be at work and maintain your Fluid and Protein intakes.....then go for the surgery whenever it's the most cost effective!

Dr. Aceves is a great surgeon..I'm heading down there for surgery on Dec 14.

Joyfuljoy - I had my surgery on a Saturday, came home on Tuesday and went back to work that Friday. I have a desk job and the only thing I really noticed was that by the end of the day, I was mentally and physically exhausted. That is due to the drastic decrease in calories and Protein.

If you don't want to wait, then go for spring break. If it won't drive you totally crazy with anticipation, then hang in there until summer - having 2 months off would be awesome and by the time school resumes you'll be back on normal food, which is easier to manage at work than liquids believe me.

You will absolutely LOVE Dr. Aceves and his team - they are the BEST!

I had my op 1 month ago and I wasn't strong for 2 weeks, and yes, I slept a lot. If I were you I'd leave myself enough time to recover and get used to the new way of things. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
