Does anyone else do this???????

We often eat at the home of friends. Since my VSG I have been taking much smaller portions and spreading them around the plate so it looks like the plate has food on it. I eat slowly and stop when I am full. No one seems to notice how much food I am eating or not eating. Isn't that amazing?

Cracker Barrel - OH How I miss that place - the closest one to me in Las Vegas is a few hours away ... I not only like their food, I love the country store!

Great idea about the Buffet Carolyn -- there are so many buffets in Las Vegas, but since we both had surgery, we just don't even consider eating at a Buffet; however, if we're with a group, maybe they'd consider a reduced price for us.

Our issue is called mindless eating:tongue_smilie: I struggle almost every day...I'm trying to be PRESENT before, during and after I eat. I'm finding that I can only eat 4-5 bites and depending on what it is..5 is one bite to many. I'm still trying to get on some type of rhythm of drinking and eating seperately because I'm not getting my Water in or when I do, I'm not eating...

I've noticed over the past month I have stopped taking my B12, Calcium and Vitamin...need to get back on the deal!

I'm struggling for sure....

I did it again today!!!!:cursing:

I went to lunch and one of the guys from work was talking about chinese food.. sooo I thought.. ok.... I'll get a "to go" from the buffett.... it all looked soooo good and I did make good choices....

But I couldn't eat anything today! I might have had 4 bites.... I'm far enough out that it shouln't have bothered me like that. I brought it home and will have for lunch and dinner tomorrow... I did manage to have the sweet and sour Soup about 6 pm.

I'm kinda worried in away, that I'm not eating "right".... I can't explain it... but I'm having a harder time lately "eating" my protein.....

I can totally relate Chancie -- I'm not sure what is going on with me -- it seems the bad things go down easy and the good things seem to make me gag. I did terrible today - probably one of the worst days I have had -- I started out good - actually ate some Breakfast - an egg casserole that Ruthi gave me the recipe for - it's YUMMY. BUT then ... someone brought me a piece of red velvet cake (a small sliver) and I ate it. Then someone else brought in some of those pizelles (?) (italian Cookies that taste like licorice) and I ate 2 of them. What the heck is up with that. Then when I got home this evening I tried to eat a salad and was only able to get down about 3 bites. And I wonder why I'm not losing?? I'm not gaining, either, but I have 7 lbs to onederland and I seem to be self-sabotaging myself and I don't know why!

Bearded is having the same problem; so we've decided to do the 5-day pouch test Sat-Wed and see if that helps us get back on task. But then ... there's Thanksgiving... so I don't know how that's going to work ... it's frustrating!

I clicked on this thread to read "Lib's" posting and when I read it I decided to read the whole thread. Very interesting, helpful and funny at times! I am on my Pre-op diet now, but before starting I had lost about 30 pounds since July. Then 3 days before my pre-op diet I really was out of control. I went out to eat with my daughter to have my Thanksgiving dinner that I am not going to be able to eat the holiday. I ordered an All you can eat just like her entire family. I was not able to keep going back for more and more like usual and I was sharing my onion rings and even shared my banana pudding, which normally I would have went back for seconds on a plate full of deserts. I am hoping that I never eat like I did before starting my journey and the three days before my Pre-op diet. I am going to try to find smaller portions and healthier food when I do go out to eat after surgery. I am glad that I read this. Thank you all for posting!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
