Stomach question

Recommended Posts

Ok I have been doing some research about the sleeve and I know about 80% of the stomach gets cut out. But my question is after surgery can your stomach stretch back out? I know you can gain weight back it you cheat and eat junk food and don?t work out. I just want to know before I do this, is there a way that my stomach will expand again? Thanks Amanda

There can be some minimal stretching, but from the stats I've seen it's no more than 8oz. This will also depend on what size of boughie your surgeon uses. Your stomach will never get as big as it was pre-op, nor can you stretch it out that much because the stomach tissue that is left is the muscular part, the part they remove is the more stretchy portion of the stomach.

It's not like with the band or RNY when people stretch their pouches out and can eat 6 slices of pizza again.

Six slices of pizza? ????? That is a lot of pizza! I'm not sleeved yet, and just the thought of 6 slices of pizza makes me what to puke! I can't even eat 3. . . (have you guessed I don't fancy pizza)

really, RNY later can eat 6 slices of pizza? ? I thought it is the most successful operation regarding weight loss results but I was afraid to do it because of the intestinal work involved.

people can ana do eat around the rny all the time.mThey have huge problems with mal absorbtion and their bodies are telling them they are starving and need to eat. so they do. With the sleeve no mal-absorbtion and the feeling of fullness is there. You can eat around the sleeve also. It is only a tool. Ya gotta figure out how to use it.

Yeah, it happens. If they stretch out their little stretchy pouch over time. They don't change their eating habits, and any of the surgeries have be "cheated", but I have found between the band and the sleeve, that the sleeve is more restrictive, plus, I'm never hungry. I have to set a reminder alarm on my phone so I remember to eat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
