Homecoming delayed, I'm devastated

Recommended Posts

I have not griped at all through this damn deployment so forgive me for this rant. Most of y'all know that John was due home this next week. Well, he was able to call this morning and his return date has been pushed back. I literally felt my heart break into a million pieces when he told me. I just wanted to cry, but Caysen was with me, and I knew it wouldn't be a good idea for him to see me breakdown.

I was actually at the commissary, buying some of John's favorite foods, and getting stuff just for him. Things that haven't been in my shopping cart for 6 months. Luckily, everything will stay fresh, but it was just so disappointing.

He hasn't been extended very long. It's a simple delay, and I realize it could be a lot worse, but that isn't going to change how upset I am. The most unraveling moment in the phone conversation is when John said " I just wanted to be home with you so badly, I miss you terribly, I'm so tired of this, and I need you."

The one thing that I should of remembered was "never get your hopes up, the military will destroy them." As a spouse, it's so difficult not to get your hopes up especially when they (the Air Force) tells you one thing, and then change their minds. I have everything ready for his return. We had it all planned out, and of course, my heart was so ready for him to be home. It happens all the time, and I should of known better than to be excited. He'll still be home soon, but it's just another week without him that we have to make it through ! ! !

Thanks for listening/reading.

Oh Tiff, I know how heartbreaking this has to be for you . I will be babysitting at my DD's this evening if you want to chat.

I am so sorry to hear this. I hope the delay is not a long one and he is home very soon.

I'll leave the chat window open. I'll be there in an hour 7 my time 9 yours.

He's active duty Air Force, and their deployments average about 6 months. He's been gone since mid-March.

Thanks for listening. I think what sent me over the edge was hearing him so miserable. We've both been troopers through this thing. He was denied coming home during my surgery/complications, and I got over being pissed about that situation. Now, this has just brought up all the frustration. He's been through pure hell over there this go around. This is his 4th deployment, and he said this is by far the worst one yet.

It's not a long delay, and I'm grateful it's not a true extension. We were just so prepared for this week to finally happen.

Tiff, my heart goes out to you and your husband. It's okay to feel the way you do, that is perfectly normal. Yes, thank goodness it's not a long delay. I pray he is home for Christmas for you.

I'm so sorry to hear this!!

I know how excited you were!

When he gets home will he be here for awhile? I sure do hope so! It sounds like you both need each other about now!

Be strong.... and hopefully the week will fly by and you two will be together!

Hope the coming home outfit still fits ya... and you don't have to go buy another on in a smaller size!

( well- that wouldn't be tooo bad either! )

Tiff, I am sorry about this. At this point, I am sure even a one day delay would be tough to deal with. I really do admire you and all of our military families. I can't imagine how difficult it must be being apart from the ones you love.

That's AWFUL Tiff - hang in there and remain strong -- I know it's working on your last nerve - and now an absessed tooth isn't helping -- but maybe John being delayed will be a blessing in disguise as it seems like you'll have to deal with a root canal - and won't be 100% yourself - maybe this way you'll be 100% healed when he does come home (trying to look at a silver lining?) HUGS to you - call if you need to talk!:party4::hug:

I thought about that today, and figured I'd go ahead and get this tooth taken care of while we wait. This stupid tooth was found last year during my routine exam. The root is dead, and he told me that it would either need to be pulled or have the root canal. Well, it wasn't bothering me until now. I just hope they can get me in tomorrow. My stomach is absolutely torn up because of the anbesol, and because the Motrin and Tylenol I've been rotating since yesterday.

I just wish I could lay in bed and go to sleep, but I'm up every 30-45 minutes applying more ointment to my mouth.

Did you see my post to you on Facebook? Take 800 mg. ibuprofen and 2 xtra strength tylenol all at the same time - it has the same effects as codeine without the addiction - according to my dentist. I had to deal with an absessed tooth over the thanksgiving weekend a few years ago and this combination saved my life.

Now that I think about it, since our stomach is smaller, wonder if 400 mg. ibuprofen and 1 xtra strength tylenol would work?

I've shared this "secret" with others at work and they've been amazed at the pain relief.

I gal (fighting an absessed tooth last week) said it worked better for her than the Lortab her dentist prescribed.

Hope it helps!

Tiff,

I'm so sorry about the delay. I know how you've been counting the minutes. I hope you will have that tooth fixed and be 100% by the time John gets home. As always, take care of yourself and may the time fly by.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
