protein supplements - at week 5

Recommended Posts

I don't care for Protein Drinks, probably because of years of dieting using slim fast, medifast, etc...but I realize that some days, to get in all my Protein, I have to use them.

So, in my 32 oz water bottle I sometimes add 1 scoop of Syntrax Nectar, "Fuzzy naval" 4 tsp of Benefiber, 3 tbls splenda, and 16 oz Water, shake, then fill the rest up with ice. That takes me through the morning. It kinda reminds me of Tang. I couldn't stand Syntrax at first, but now I have my own little formula that makes it more tolerable.

And, when I use the GNC amplified wheybolic extreme 60, vanilla flavor, I will add a couple frozen strawberries, and 1/4 cup 2% milk, to 6 oz of water. You only need one scoop of the powder, not 3 like recommended. That is for those who want to build muscle.

I still buy the protein crunch bars from Medifast, cause I can't find any bars that are as low in calories/high in protein.

Medifast now has parmesan cheese puffs, honey mustard pretzles, that serve me well.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth.

Oh, and I forgot to add, I like to keep the premade shake, Muscle milk lite, in my desk drawer and even my car, just in case. If you find you forgot to take protein with you, and need something quick, most all mini-marts and grocery stores carry them in the cold section, along with sodas. They are ok, not great, but will do if you are in a pinch.

Thanks again, B-man, that is exactly what I am looking for. Dr. C from LapSF reminded me that Protein is 4 calories per gm and anything over that has extra stuff in it. Does is taste ok? If I can choke it down quickly, then it is so worth it to me.

I can't choke them down. They are super bitter sweet to me, but what I do is mush up a no sugar added frozen fruit bar, and drink it that way.

I can tolerate the Fruit Punch and Blue Raspberry flavor of the ones they sell at GNC.

The ones I get are 42grams of Protein.< /span>

Oh, I remember those now, I sampled it at GNC and it tasted horrible. I will try it again with your recipe and see how it goes.

While there is some controversy about the quality of the Protein in the bullets I say 42 gms of poorer quality protein is much better than no grams of great quality protein that you cannot tolerate.

The bullets worked great for me early on. I would pour off a little Water from half liter water bottle, pour in the bullet and sometimes add crystal lite. It flavored the water and made the bullet tolerable. Drink it straight felt like drinking warm Jello and was just not fun.

Can you drink them cold or is there a rule against it? Sorry if that sounds dumb, but I am really not getting in my Protein and I can't do the shakes.< /p>

I drink the bullets cold mushed up with a popsicle. That's the only way I can tolerate them.

I bought a bullet at the grocery store called Super whey and it's fruit punch, but I guess it's not the same as the ones you guys are talking about. I haven't tried it yet. I stopped by GNC again even though I hate the woman who works there and got the Orange Isopure drink. I tried the punch and the apple, but I'm going to mix this one with my morning orange juice and benefiber to see if I can handle it. I just know I'm going to lose my hair soon.

They have so many different brands of the bullets now.

I've seen Super Whey, EAS makes on, and then the New Whey ones at GNC.< /span>

I have some EAS ones in the fridge right now that only have 26grams of Protein. I bought for "emergencies". I plan on picking up more of the New Whey brand at GNC. I get a case (12) of the New Whey for around $30, and they have 42grams of Protein per bullet.

Isopure is 100% whey Protein isolate. The other stuff -- the ones that come in a tube -- are collegan and whey protein and casein protein.

Collegan is not a complete Protein. It has to combine with other Proteins in your body to make a complete Protein. That's one reason that they also throw in some whey and casein -- to give you some other protein to combine with.

Whey protein isolate is the most bio-available protein so, if you are only getting in a little, it's a good one to consume.

But to some extent, it's more important to get protein, any protein, than to worry over what kind. People get a bit crazy about the protein supplements IMO. After all, the protein in eggs is more bioavailable than the protein chicken but no one suggests you should never eat chicken and only eat eggs. For one thing, the difference just isn't that great and, for another, the more variety you have in your diet, the better off you are.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
