My vsg is on the 25th of August 2009 and I am a bit aprehensive about the whole thing. I just want everything to be okay ya know. I am 5'11" currently 276 on the pre-pre-op diet. My starting weight was 282, not my heaviest but still too heavy with a BMI of 39.3. I won't have as far to go as many people here but I have struggled with my weight since I was 5 so 30 years later it is just as scary to think about. So many of you sound an look great!! I am ready to join the club as well.

For myself, my little girl 8mos old, and my loving wife, I cannot fail, so I am looking forward to the end of the endless struggle. Ya'll know what I mean i'm sure. Anyway, some of the things I am thinking about regarding this procedure I can't really discuss with my family because they just get upset, so here I am.

I'm sure I'll write more later.:biggrin0:

I just wanted to pop in here and welcome you to the board. I was really apprehensive about my revision from band to sleeve, but I just couldn't see living miserably anymore. I could of just had the band removed, but realized, I would never reclaim my life and truly begin to live. I have an 11 year old son and fabulous husband that I want to enjoy life with instead of sitting on the sidelines.

I look forward to hearing more of your progress, and will keep you in my thoughts through your journey.

P.S. Texas is my true home. I'm from Bedford, and miss it terribly. I was born and raised there, and actually born in Dallas, grew up out west in Parker County by Weatherford.

One of the nice thing about the forum is that we all have been through it or are looking for answers. We all learn from the questions of others.

Good luck in your search for info and in your WL journey. carol

Welcome, Don!

I'm sure most (if not all) of us were apprehensive about surgery pre-op. It just comes with the territory. But I still have not heard anyone who has regretted their decision. I'm just 5.5 weeks out, but no regrets here. I have 4 little ones & a loving husband...I want to be able to enjoy them while they are still young (and while I'm still young, for that matter! :laugh0:)

Good luck with your surgery. I'll be watching for your updates.

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. I could haved saved myself ten grand and a lot of misery from the band, if I had known about the sleeve first.

Best wishes to you. Welcome to our board. You're going to do great!

Don, your note struck a chord with me as I am also 5'11" and weighed 282 when I started my preop diet. I'm now a little over 2 weeks post op and already down 21 pounds.

I too was very apprehensive about the surgery, but now I realize that I spent all that time worrying for nothing. The surgery went smoothly and I had no complications or problems whatever. I didn't need to use any of the pain meds I was sent home with and I was back at work in four days.

Like Oregondaisy, I only wish I had done this sooner.

Best of Luck to you on your surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
