Pre-Surgery nerves! :( (Oct. 2nd, have to be there at 6:30 am)

Recommended Posts

I'm getting kind of nervous. Anybody have any words of advice for shaking the nerves? What happened during prep for you guys? Tomorrow morning kind of seems like an approaching rain cloud for now, and I'm really nervous. Other than that, I'm excited about everything after tomorrow.

it's natural to be nervous before surgery. they will take you back to put a gown on, hook up all the equipment to take and monitor your vitals, put in a iv line, anesthesiologist will come in to ask a few questions, you may or may not see the doctor before hand. then will give you some awesome medicine through your iv to relax you. next thing you know you will wake up in recovery :) piece of cake. good luck!

I almost called and cancelled the night before my surgery. I looked for escape routes as I was walked back to the prep area. As each person came to visit me, they put me at so much ease. Then it was over and I was back home in a flash. Take a few breaks today to take very deep breaths to calm your nerves. Try to get to sleep at your normal time tonight. Read a book or listen to calming music. Tomorrow, remember to ask questions if you have them. They are ready for anything. I asked a couple that made us all laugh. You'll do great!

Hi Allie, you are going to do beautifully! I hear you on the 6:30 AM part but in a way it's great because you'll be the very first surgery of the day. Just think, by this time tomorrow you'll be doing your little walks and taking sips of Water. What are you up to tonight? Can you distract yourself somehow -- go out with friends or watch favorite movies, etc.? I will be thinking of you and can't wait to hear how you are doing! Best wishes from your band buddy in New Hampshire!

I have a collection of my favorite kid shows, movies, and musicals to go through while I'm not feeling well. :) if I can just reach that anesthetic part, I'll be fine. That's how it was when I had my tonsils out when I was 18.

You wanna know what the worst part about the surgery is??? The part that's in your head! If you can handle an iv then the rest is simple cause they will have you on some really good stuff once the iv goes in. Just relax and think about the new you that's waiting right around the corner. Good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
