Hello!!!! I am in Reno. I was banded on 3-24-06 and my first fill was 5-8 and my second fill is on 5-24-06.

Don't worry about the weight comming off slow, it will come off. I am about 13 lbs down as well, but I have yet to feel real restriction.

Hopefully it will come with this 2nd fill.

I have never met anyone yet, that it did not work for. :)

Just wanted to say HELLO to all of you Reno Bandsters!

I was banded Feb 10th in Truckee by Dr. Billy and love my band! I am down 41lbs to date and going strong. Dr. Billy is only in Truckee once a month but does see patients that are not his for fills (I think they run $300 but don't quote me on that)

Western Surgical Group is wonderfull as well! They have treated my husband for other digestive issues and are just a great group of doctors and staff!

I'm looking into getting the lap band surgery in reno. I am going to the free seminar on June 9th. Most likely, my insurance isn't going to cover it, but I have a huge savings account. Can anyone tell me what their surgery cost was before insurance paid?

What kind of insurance do you have? I also had a hiatle hernia repair done at the same time and mine came to around 19,000.I didn't think my insurance was going to cover very much but they actually covered 100% so you never know.:girl_hug: :rose: :rose:

I am happy to see that there are more bandsters in reno chatting here. I had my surgery with Dr R Watson at Western Bariatrics. I love him. He has given me a new lease on life,

I am still covered under my 1 years post op care and dont pay for fills yet. But I am sure there are more to come and my year will soon be up. I will ask next time I go in. I had an appointment today for a fill but the office cancelled it since Dr W wasnt in. I will see him on the 14th.

I didnt have any restriction until after a few fills. the thing is to get into a habit of measuring your food and Water and keeping track of your exercise all in a journal. develop the good habits even before you have restriction.

Best of luck to you all

we have support group meetings on the third thursday of every month at washoe medical center south at 6pm it is open to pre and post op patients. hope to see you all there.

I went to my seminar last night in Reno with Dr. Watson instructing it. It was very informative and answered 100% of my questions. And by the way, what a hottie! Hopefully I will be getting banded by august 1st.

I'm a soon-to-be Reno bandster. My surgery is Friday June 16th with Dr. Kuri in TJ. I will probably see him for a fill in October because I'm going to Disneyland anyway. For regular fills I plan to go to Dr. Billy in Truckee, I've heard nothing but great things about him. My fills are free in TJ, but after the cost to get there, hotel and getting over the border.... a couple of hundred bucks to got to Truckee is better.

Skye our starting weights are the same, does Dr. Billy take low BMI patients (or mabye you're short lol)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
