What is your flight protocol?

Recommended Posts

I have a quick flight later this week (about an hour). I haven't flown in a few months and do have a call into the doc, but is it no food/drink for 30 minutes before and 15 minutes after?

I flew to Denver about 4 hours.. didn't know about any restriction on eating or drinking.. didn't seem to affect my band at all... even flying from sea level to mile high...but if you are concerned call your Doc...

Some people don't have any issues when they fly, other have major issues. I, fall in the ladder. I carry Protein powder so I can mix a Protein shake when I get where I am going. Not much aside from liquid or yogurt goes down after a flight with me. But, I am able to sip Water while on a flight. Last time I sipped on a hot cup of coffee and that really helped me from getting to tight when we landed.

Have a safe trip

I fly all the time and have never had any issues, I'm like many people in the thread I didn't know there were restrictions/ guidelines for flying.

Hi,

I never heard of restrictions for flying and I've flown a lot since being banded in 2007. I do sometimes have a little more restriction after I fly but it's very temporary (2-3 days) and no big deal.

Good luck.

Thanks, like everything else with the band each doc seems to have different guidelines. Mine is no food/drink during the flight, stop eating 1hr before, drinking 30 mins before and nothing "before you get to the baggage claim"!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
