My surgery is at the end of October. I am getting a little nervous now.

Be honest... How should I expect feel after surgery? What is the band feel like?

You'll hurt some, feel crappy for a few days, your port will be sore for a month or so. You band will be open so you will be hungry for a couple of months. Stay strong follow your pouch rules and it will be the new HEALTHY you before you know it!! Good luck you are doing the right thing!!

You may be fine after surgery or you may have gas pains, and other general pain and discomfort. Walking, heating pads, and time will take care of it.

The band doesn't feel like anything. You can feel the port when you run your hand over it and the more you lose, the more you will feel it. I don't have any fills so I can only tell you of my experience. I feel nothing when I eat. Meaning I don't feel restriction and no stuck episodes or throwing up fortunately. Once in a while I am uncomfortable if I've eaten a little too much but most of the time, I stick to band sized portions and either feel satisfied after eating or within a half hour of that. I do get hungry but I never feel like I'm starving or ravenous. I have to always be aware of what I am eating and how much. I stay compliant and make good choices and have had great success so far. Good luck to you and welcome to banded life.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
