Recommended Posts

Yes I am having major regrets of being banded. I am out 3 weeks. Have been on soft foods for a week and now am having terrible pain issues. After I eat it feels like a pipe going thru my chest. Called dr, did liquids 24 hours, progress back to soft and it started again. I am not living the rest of my life on liquids. This may come out faster than it went in.

i has pain about a week out terrible stabbing pain..in my left shoulder and left upper back..turns out i was eating too fast. I don't know if that has anything to do with your pain..but wanted to let you know so, if it is related, you can make some adjustments and start enjoying your banded life.

Sorry you are having a difficult time with your band. I get pain when I over eat. Try eating really slow and a smaller portion.

Probably just gas take a beano or a gas x before you eat and eat SLOWLY!! You've been through major surgery give yourself time to heal.

It sounds like you are eating too fast, too big bites, or not chewing enough. The horrible feeling in your chest is what happens to me when food is not moving through the pouch. My nutritionist recommended bites approximately the size of the nail on your pinky finger, chew until the food is mush, then swallow.

I hope you are happy and successful with your band!

What size band do you have? Did your surgeon put any Fluid in it during surgery?

A 14 (I think, was half drugged still when they told me) and no fill other than the 3 cc that comes in it.

3cc doesn't come in it, they had to put it in it. It's very possible that you may need that 3cc removed because it's too much with the swelling from surgery. If I were you, I'd call your doctor and ask to have it removed.

It can be removed or reduced. In fact, I have a very close friend who had to it removed because she was way too tight.

I asked my Doc a couple of days ago and he said that my 14 cc lap-band did not have any saline in it at the time of my surgery!

i get the most pain when i have liquid in my pouch and than try to eat. the liquid makes me spit up the food and it. the pain is awful when it first occurs. no liquid before a meal, small bites and chew. eat slowly. if you are going to have a problem you will know it before the big pain happeneds. good luck.

You may want to stay in contact with your surgeron, it should never be painful for you to eat. Most people are more swollen than others, some people have no restriction and many people are more swollen than others.

With my first band, I did not get my first fill until about 4 months post op, because I had a lot of swelling which mimicked "restriction" and if that is the case, you need to keep your meals very moist and stick to mushy foods and don't progress your diet. (I lost 40 pounds very quickly in two months, because I was tight right out of surgery).

The warning signs to look for is dehydration, if you can keep liquids down and soft mushies, you should be ok, but if you can't that may be a problem. Also if you have vomited that will cause more swelling and makes things a bit more difficult to get any soft foods down.

Stay in contact with your surgeon, if you can't get fluids down you can easily get dehydrated...also what I found helped me was to sip room temp, Water and crystal lite, you have to learn to keep a water bottle in your hand to constantly sip. Cold Water will further tighten up the band, and could make you vomit and you don't want that right now.

Also make sure that you take pea size teaspoons of food and wait until it goes down before taking another bite of anything, you have to go very slow with eating.

Edited to add: you should not be vomiting, it is critical that you avoid any vomiting before your band heals and can set in place, you need to contact your surgeon ASAP.

I agree, it sounds like you may be taking too big of bites and eating too fast. At 3 weeks out I was still on purees. If you ate the Soup and chicken that wasn't pureed, maybe your stoma is irritated too. That's why your wl surgeon recommended going back on liquids to give it time to heal. You just need to take it slow, follow doctors orders, and remember your body is trying to adjust to the changes now since being banded. Work with your band and it will love you back :) Don't give up on your band yet. Best wishes :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
