June 2006 Band Crew

Recommended Posts

Weather is big issue over the country. Houston is getting record cold temperatures and still in threat of icy conditions. How does the band react? I am down with this cold so I don't know if it is the cold or cold. I haven't been too hungry, can't taste, and can't seem to get my Water in. I am able to have a cup or two of hot tea throughout the day. I am trying to get my Protein in as my hair is not falling out at the rapid rates of before.

I went to a new support group meeting last night near my home. One lady showed up. However, she and I had lots in common so now I have another friend to share this journey. It is so nice to find others that you can relate to and like as people. Barbara 12 and PinkyLee are two more. I am so grateful for the face to face meetings as well as the friendship found in our Junebies group.

Hope everyone is doing well. The countdown has begun as we are less than 6 months away from Vegas. PM me and let me know you are coming if you haven't done so. I want to get a count so I can start making some arrangements and exploring our options.

Hey, I forgot to notice my hair isn't falling out anymore either. It's pretty thin for me, but luckily I had thick hair to begin with. I think I also have the problem of activity level being too low. The past four days , I have gone for a walk, trying to keep this latest slowdown from lingering too long. I rode my November fill as long as I could without exercising. That's my biggest weak point. And even here in southern California, it's been too cold to walk before or after work this week. I went to the mall three times. Yesterday my son had an appointment mid-day, so I walked while I waited for him. I have to get to where I have a regular routine!

Regina --You hang in there with the smokes. You didn't start out at 1 or 2 packs per day (whatever it is you do smoke) over night. You most likely are not going to quit over night either. I think your doing great. Take it one craving at a time.

Ladypitboss --sorry to hear of your troubles with insurance. Insurance is such a racket (my opinion). You probably will have to get a lawyer if you want more than what they are offering. They are betting on you take it and not get a lawyer.

Barbara465 --sometimes the weather effects my band. Early fall I found that as the weather got colder I was tighter. I don't seem to be having that problem thus far but I haven't eaten too much yesterday and today (thus far).

I'm counting down to Vegas too!! I hope to be at least 50 pounds lighter by the time I get there.

Regina,

We are happy that you are back. I'm not a smoker, but each day you have only a few has to feel better than throwing in the towel.

Barbara, congrats on the new friend. It's really been a blessing losing weight and then finding great new friends too!

Put me on the Vegas list.

Lady, residuals from tramatic events are surprising and hard to take. Give it time. IN the meantime, remember, there are attorney's out there who will take all your settlement money. There are honest ones too (DD is an attorney). Perhaps all you need to do is contact a state representative or senator or your state insurance board. Your insurance company probably has the address to the insurance regulatory board and probably has to furnish you their info and your options (by law). Don't take no for an answer. Make a copy of accident report, your insurance info and their offer (insist they give it in writing) and send a copy to your district's state rep and senator and the state insurance board and ask them for help. Don't forget to include your contact information. Going through an attorney could take years of red tape. Talk about residuals! Good luck.

Here are some funnies for today:

1. If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic. Simply pour a cup of

boiling Water down your throat and presto, the blockage will be almost

instantly removed.

2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting

someone else to hold them while you chop away.

3. You can avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat

just by using the sink.

4. For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for

a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to

use an egg timer.

5. A mouse trap placed on top of your alarm clock will prevent you from

rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives. Then you

will be afraid to cough.

7. Have a bad toothache? Smash your thumb with a hammer and you will

forget all about the toothache.

8. Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are:

In life, you only need two tools - WD-40 and Duct Tape.

If it doesn't move but should, use the WD-40.

If it should not move and does, use the duct tape.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Thought for the day:

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES..... THEY ARE NOT REALLY GOOD FOR

ANYTHING... BUT THEY STILL BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN YOU PUSH

THEM DOWN A FLIGHT OF STAIRS.

Ok guys just got back from my fill, now I'm wondering was it worth it! I felt so wide open i could eat the bumper off of a car. Well I told the lady I was super sensitive to fills, she said the baruim swallow said I needed .6 so I told he to back off at least .1, so she put in .5 all together. 3 sips of Water and I threw it up, so she took out .2, went out to drink more water. was gurgling even on my own saliva, so she said she would have to take more out. Now granted I was probably swollen from throwing up now. so she took out .2 more. Leaving me with a grand total of .1 fill, hardly worth it I think, because most likely when the swelling goes down I will be back at NO restriction. I am so frustrated. Was poked 3 times and walked away with almost nothing!!!!!

I too just came back from a fill with probably the very opposite: I was at 1.5 and was filled to 2.5! I'm wondering if I'm now TOO filled? What does it feel like to be TOO filled? I'm kind of debating whether I'll be able to get my pill down in the morning :)

When you took that big jump in cc's, (when they added 1.3 for you) how did it 'feel'? Did it feel tight? I'm really having a hard time judging.:)

when I took that big jump is what taught me what to tight was, with me, if I sip Water and it gurgles going down it is too tight. At that time it was gurgling not only on water but on my own saliva. If it gurgles I don't leave, because the time I did when I had that big jump 3 days later I couldn't even eat cottage cheese. How are you feeling?

I kind of feel like I'm tight by my throat. Not choking...just....like I'm full all the way up to my throat. I think maybe I have too much....how long did you keep that fill that was too tight? (the early one)

Never mind, I read your signature (sorry, I'm a bit slow). I'm going to give it a few days and see what happens. Just feels a bit weird.

3 days, then I got stuck on cottage cheese and went in immediately! I was miserable. Is liquids going down ok? If so give it a couple of days may just be the swelling your feeling. But you shouldn't feel that way for more than 48 hours.

I'm going to give it until Thursday around this time. That way if I wake up Thursday and it's still feeling like this, I can try to get in either Thursday or Friday.

Liquids are going down EXTREMELY slow. But I'm also at that TOM and I swell some during that time so I decided to 'wait and see'.

I have 2.5 in a 4.0 band as of today; until today, I've had 1.5.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
