Hmmm not losing...

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery June 11,2013. I've done really well. I've lost 40lbs. It came off so fast in the beginning and now it just seemed to stop. I can't break the plateau. I began working out 5 days a week. 2 days with a personal trainer. 3 days cardio. Maybe my body is in shock and is storing the fat?? I think it's pretty normal to slow down. Any advice on how to kick start things again? I can see my body changing but it just scares me. Is this all I will lose??

Take a break Dee!!! Your pushing your body so hard it hasn't had a chance to catch up to you yet!

Your right on the $ your metabolism has hit the pause button waiting to see if you are dying or not :) it doesn't know you are choosing to do this to it, or that there is plenty of food around. All it knows is that you had trauma (surgery) you stopped eating all the rich food you were eating before and now your pushing it to race around and it's holding on to those fat stores in case you need them to live!!!

Ease up for a day or two lighten the load, and see what happens.

oh but you ARE

if you are losing inches, you are still great and losing weight..the scale may not show a (loss or be going slow)

but you exercising and eating great means to me you are losing.

keep going forward and forward.

CGirl is right. Losing weight vs losing fat are two different issues. You can lose fat and replace the fat with muscle. It won't show on the scales but it will show in how your clothing fits.

And, the vast majority of weight we lose immediately after surgery will be fluids our body stored. It can't really be a plateau unless you go at least 4 weeks with no "fat loss".

Watch this video, it explains it very well:

I broke a plateau by boosting my Protein by 20g a day, after the third day the scale started moving again.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
