Complete unfill and in pain after

Recommended Posts

My pouch was irritated and swollen so Dr took all my Fluid out. Ten minutes after it felt like I was having a heart attack, bp was sky high, heart rate thru the roof! Went back in to see my Dr and she had me rushed to the hospital as a precaution, even though we all felt it was gastro/band related. Heart is fine! But I still keep getting pain in my chest where the band is located! Is it normal to feel discomfort after an unfill?

The unfill came right after the barrium swallow. Pouch was dilated and irritated. No slip! Had an upper GI scope done as well. I am going to call her if the pain comes back again. Last time was this morning.

I was just the opposite... horrible pain that was relieved by unfill.

Sometimes after being too tight for awhile, there is damage done, like pouch dilation that will mimic heart problems and the pouch will throb and be very painful and scary and is similar to heart problems.

Also sometimes totally unfillng the band will make it very uncomfortable for a while, and sometimes you may need medication after severe irritation, some people are put on carafate and a PPi, like protonix after being too tight, remember all band slips don't show on Upper Gi's if you are still feeling bad after two weeks, something probably is still wrong.

Pouch dilation (which is a considered a mild slip, swollen pouch) sometimes can feel just as worse than a full band slip, but a pouch dilation can be managed and treated with a total unfill, and medication, whereas band slippage CANNOT, band slippage has to be surgically fixed or the band removed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
