To tight??

Recommended Posts

I had a fill last Wednesday so a week and a half ago. I have been doing really well until the last two days and barely can keep food down after the first go round. I tried to eat my salads for lunch and instantly get heart burn and then toss it all up. After about an hour I'm good and can eat a little. Also had trouble at supper but tossed it up then ate again. Weird! Am I too tight! Anyone else go through this? Not having any trouble with fluids though. Any suggestions?

I just had a chat with my support people today and was advised that it takes about 1.5 - 2 weeks for the fill to take full effect. The nurse advised me that if I started to get any acid reflux, vomiting, excessive burping then the band is too tight. Maybe you might need a very small de-fill. This is not normal for the band. I've had it for a year I've had 3 fills and I've not encountered the things you are encountering. If the band tighten's because of stress you would be productive burping no vomit no heart burn. Since you can still drink fluids I would play around with it over the weekend like try taking smaller bites or drinking warm tea if this does not help I would contact your doctor's office and request a small de-fill.

Sounds like your stoma is irritated from all the regurgitation or vomiting. You need to go on all liquids for a day or two until the swelling is gone. If you don't, it will continue to get worse and that can lead to a slip.

When you start back on solids, you also need to examine your eating habits. Make sure you're not taking too big of a bite, make sure you're chewing well and don't swallow until you chew until about the consistency of applesauce.

You mentioned salad. salad is one thing I can eat but have to be very careful and slow or it causes problems.

I have experience similar problems since my 2nd fill last Friday :( I tried to eat a piece of an English muffin and it got stuck! Worst feeling ever!! I felt like I was going to throw up but nothing would come out..I'm going to do all liquids for a few days and see how I feel.

Can anyone explain why it supposed to take so long for a fill to take effect? I've never experienced that, and I can always feel my feels right away, or If anything, it gets looser over time…

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
