Successful Band Stories here!

Recommended Posts

I've had my band for about three and a half months and have lost 31 pounds so far. I already feel a very big difference fitting into chairs, such as at the movie theater and at restaurants where the chairs have arms. In fact, just yesterday I went into a restaurant and was immediately scared because the chairs had arms, because I forget I'm smaller now. I fit into the chair with lots of room to spare! Also, I feel a difference in booths, I have more room.

I've gone down two sizes in my shirts and one size in my pants, and am fitting into jeans I haven't worn in years.

I can walk miles without getting winded or my feet getting tired, and get less winded walking up steps.

It's only been a short time, but I already consider myself a success thus far.

Yay for you Sunta!

I'm down by 30 pounds as of today! Isn't it funny how much difference just 30 pounds makes? I can't wait to feel what 60 pounds down feels like!

Excellent stories everyone. Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks to you all for sharing your inspiring success stories. Congratulations to each of you in reaching your important milestones. As a pre bandster I would check LBT daily for support in my new journey. However, when I would find the support I needed, somehow the negative always seemed to overshadow the positive. I was just banded seven days ago, and to read the long term success is a major inspiration. Like Tricia, I was never unhappy about my weight, but always knew that eventually my weight would affect my health. I have a wonderful life and I want to enjoy it as long as I can. I am quite aware that lap band is a life style change and not a magic cure, this is work, and there will be ups and downs. I mentioned this forum to my coordinator in the program that I am in and while she did like the support available, she did mention that even in her office, patients with problems can be the most vocal, so the success stories sometimes aren’t as prominent. She is also a bar iatric patient. What she did point out to me though, is that in all the years she has been working with lap band and gastric patients, she has never heard or seen some of the things that have been posted, suggesting that everyone will have a different experience, based upon personal commitment , metabolism, or physical response to the band. But the important point is to be sure to reach out for the support you do need. My program is amazing supporting and has a monthly support meeting just for lap band patients. Topics are varied, and open discussion is also a part of the meetings. Just as we all have different preferences in food, clothing, etc…we all have different needs in support. Thanks again!

Great thread! I feel successful! I have to date lost 50% of my weight in 7 months. I totally off meds for blood pressure (last reading 120/72)! I am thinking I will soon be off Metformin. The difference it has made in my health, how I feel, and my appearance is wonderful. I hear bandsters say this all the time.....but I really wish I had done this sooner!

Im down 47 pounds, gained back my confidence.Feel much better, men are actually looking at me not in the way she-has-pretty-face-but-is-too-fat.Im not depressed anymore and Im thinking of gaving up my depression pills (the ones I have slow down the weight loss a bit).

Im much more active Im not ashamed to go out anymore. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week, I feel great.

not anymore wrong types of guys approach me, cause they feel Im not submissive anymore and they couldnt order me around....

What a great post! I am definitely inspired.

I've had my band a little over 4 years.

I'm 5'9' and started at 319 with a BMI of 47. During this time I had a healthy baby and he is almost 2. My current BMI is 28 and I weigh 192. I'm very close to my goal of 185-BMI of 27. After that I will lower my goal to 168 which would put me at BMI of 24. I think it might take another 6 months or a year to lose those last 17 pounds.

I have had no complications other than some mild reflux which I treated with Tums and not eating within a couple of hours of bed. It went away.

I've only had about 5 fills in that time and my last fill from April 2005 is still working very well.

I went from a size 26/28 to a 12/14/16 depending on the clothes. A 3X to an XL or L.

And I am still losing. I've lost 5 pounds in the past couple of weeks.

I also started jogging and am constanly amazed at how I have changed.

I started out weighing 299 and wearing a size 28.At my highest I was 316. I am now 199 and wear a size 18/20. I had no complicatioins and insurance approved me in about 2 weeks. I had no problems because of my weight other then always aching and I could not play with my boys like I wanted to. Now I can go to the playground and go down the slide with them. I feel like a kid and I love it. I would not go back and change the fact that I was fat because it made me who I am now. But boy do I wish I could have had this surgery sooner. I love my band sooooooo much!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
