OBGYN appointment

Recommended Posts

My first appointment since surgery is today. I feel a little nervous. Not sure why ? She usually does an exam of my pelvic area by pushing on where my band and port are. It's a sensitive area so that makes me nervous!

Anyone else worry about their first post-op appt? Was it no big deal?

Thanks in advance!

Nothing to be nervous about. Just generic assessment to ensure that you are healing properly and assess how you feel overall. She'll probably ask about pain management, how your diet is going etc. Just be honest so that she can best help you. Hopefully you can set a date for your first fill :) -bring your calendar :)

OMG (hitting forhead) I didnt even see that this was for an OBGYN. I assumed we were talking about the surgeon. Please disregard my last post.

Give your doc the heads up where your port is. I actually tell docs to not palpate that area when I know I'm in good health because 1) it is uncomfortable and 2) Im so freaking paranoid they'll hurt the port (ie rip stitches etc). Just let her know where it is and work around it (not that she could palpate anything through a port so there's no purpose in touching it). You are still sensitive and healing and you don't need the added agitation.

Good luck

My first OBGYN appointment was 2 months after being banded and it went just fine. She palpated below the port and I did just fine. I did share with her my lap band journey. Good Luck!

Thank you both! As usual, I worried for no reason. She was gentle, and had been really encouraging when I told her I was considering the band. She's awesome and told me how proud she was that I made this decision. I was down 40 lbs since my appointment last year so that felt great!

I had mine in August....I shared my surgery with my doctor and she was very gentle pressing on my abdomen, and very supportive in general!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
