What will I need at my first appointment! What do you need before your surgery? How fast can this process go?

It depends on your insurance company (I'd start there) they all require basically the same things, only some require a 3 or 6 months medically supervised weigh loss programs that you can do with your primary doctor.

My process went pretty fast, I had my first appointment consult Jan 4th, I was banded March 18th.

I agree it may depend on your insurance. I have PPO, my friend with H.M.O. Took about 8 months to get through all the appointments and referrals and all those types of things to qualify.

Your first appointment make sure you have all your medical cards and medication list. Every doctor's office have their own pre-surgery testings etc. Very hard to answer that one. I have seen on this site some people have questionnaires to fill about for their psych test, mine was a one on one for about 45 minutes.

On your profile you don't list what state. I am from Boston.

Congratulations and good luck with your new journey. I hope you will not be sorry, I am not.

I am a self pay so it may be different. I have researched this for several years but I made the big step and had a consulation on August 1. I also had an EKG and bloodwork done at that visit. I had an EGD on August 19th where they found a hernia. I am having surgery on September 12th. So, for me it has been about a 6 week process.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
