Hi,

I was banded 6-22-02 and my hubby was banded in Oct. 2003. Both in TJ with Dr. Lopez. I initially lost about 40 lbs and then maintained for 1 1/2 yrs. My hubby lost 35 lbs and has only 25 more to go. I finally got a good fill and have lost another 12 lbs and have 40 more to go. We are both happy with the band for the most part and have not had any complications. I really like the flexability the band gives, I can take a break and not really gain much. I do struggle with the fact that all the bad things like chips and ice cream and chocolate go down even when tight, but that's a trade off. I probably couldn't live without them! I have some problem getting down Protein at this fill level, and I've never liked Protein Shakes. I do a lot of cheese instead. Can't wait to get to goal, but it looks like it could be a lot longer! We want to have another baby and my younger one is already 2 1/2 (and I'm not getting any younger!), so I may have to put off getting to goal for a while longer. Well, that's a long intro, but glad to be here!

Hi Kathy!

Welcome aboard! This is a greaat place to be! It sounds like you have a very good attitude about your band. It really is a long-term, ongoing way of life!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
