First Fill Today

Recommended Posts

Got up bright and early and went to the Doc's for my first fill today. I'm not at all squeamish around needles but the area around my port is still a bit tender so the thought of being stuck in that spot did give me pause. I shouldn't have been concerned. The Physician's Assistant let me know beforehand that the tenderness is muscular in nature and located a bit deeper and around the sides of the port. The port itself is just below the skin and the needle doesn't go near that tender part. She was 100% correct - a bit of a pinch was all that I felt and no problems. 4 cc's in. Since its the first fill, some of the liquid stays in the tube between the port and band so the restriction is minimal. Still, I could feel the difference in drinking Water. I'll spend a couple of days on liquid and mush again, then back to the stage 4 diet. Forward!

I'm really dreading a fill honestly.

I'm about three or four weeks post op and my Dr. offered me a fill at my two week follow up. I declined since I'm still losing weight on my own. I'd love to be able to get to goal without ever needing a fill.

Thanks for letting us know your fill experience though...

~David.

I has surgery on Aug 14, I was feeling like I might not need fills at all either, but it seems that once the swelling goes down..the hunger comes...although I have been losing close to 2 lbs per week. I just got my first fill Sat, but I hope to not need many fills

I also had my first fill today and I couldn't fill anything at the port site. However, they like to fill the band completely up (10 cc's) and then remove Fluid. She said they just do this on the first fill. Omgish it was not pleasant. Once it got to 10 cc's I got nauseated and a little dizzy. The dizziness was probably bc I was trying not to breath. She ended up leaving 2 cc's and I go back in 2 weeks and then 2 weeks after that for my 2nd and 3rd fills.

I had a third fill scheduled for this past Tuesday at 8:30. For the second time in a row, the PA was late getting to the office, so I rescheduled. grrr.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
