Hey everyone.. Just curious to know if when you get stuck do you notice you need to have a bowel movement afterwards? Every time I'm stuck either during or after the episode I need to have a bowel movement.. I have NO idea why or what the correlation is but am I alone? Lol

YES! In fact that is how I found this thread. I was wondering the same thing. Like does me needing to BM make me get stuck? Or does me getting stuck create some sort of pressure on my bowels that make me need to go?

Milk of magnesia helps me as my bowels kinda lock up now...sorry TMI I know but taking 2 stool softners daily has helped. Just the cheap generic ones from Walmart have made the difference. I too have felt like food gets stuck when I am stuck if you know what I mean.

I'm no doctor, but I'm willing to bet this has something to do with a bodily process called, peristalsis. If memory serves me correctly, when you eat too much your body decides to get rid of whatever waste is in your bowels to make room for the food you just injested to begin the process of digestion. "Getting stuck" could potentially trigger the same changes in your body as does over eating. Either way your body realizes there is too much food on board and it's gotta make room so you can be comfortable. Anybody know or have a friend who has to go to the bathroom shortly after they eat? Regardless of size of portion. Personally, I suffered from this problem. "Guts like a goose." Something went in so something had to come out. I could be wrong here. Anyone have a better answer?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
