What did you start doing to make the stomach start going down...

Recommended Posts

I have been walking mornings and evenings since 2 wks after surgery. I am loosing inches every where, but the stomach area is taking it's sweet time. Don't get me wrong, it is going down, but not as quick as legs, arms, face, etc. I need to add more than just walking. I was just curious if someone was the same as me and added something and started seeing a change in the stomach area.

I would say maybe pilates to work on your core, sit-ups or the 30 day Ab Challenge would be a good start.

I don't want to assume, but did you carry most of your weight in your stomach area?

It is very common to lose from the extremities, breasts, and face before (or more) before the stomach. It's harder to appreciate weight loss where the bulk of your weight exists. You can be losing equal amounts but the results look more noticeable in smaller weighted areas like your neck.

Unfortunately there's lots of research on target exercise and it simply doesn't work (ie you can do a bunch of stomach isolation exercises and expect a lean stomach). The best approach is a full body workout + cardio. Just keep at it, you are doing great.

You can strengthen your abs which will help, but spot reducing is a myth (IMHO).

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
