describe: STUCK EPISODE

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering if a stuck episode does any damage to your band? Is it best to let it pass or bring it back up?

My surgeon's answer is to not get stuck, lol...uh yeah.. and then, realizing we are human..next is to give it time to pass. He says retching is not good for the stomach/band combo. But he knows that bringing it back up cannot always be avoided. The less trauma the better in his opinion.

My experience: if I wait, lots of pain ensues. My first stuck episode went on for 5 hours. It was after dinner. I should have called my surgeon. I was young in band land and didn't know better. I heaved and retched, and heaved some more. After a few more episodes I learned that I can work my stomach muscles and bring it up sometimes. Or if I swallow a few ounces of Water it will bring it back up without the retching. And sometimes I am in a place where I decide to bring it back up forcibly (yes, finger down the throat--surgeons might not agree, but it stops the slime).

I've walked in parking lots, I've heaved in bushes, I've sat in a jury box and slimed into paper towels because I sawlloed a pill right before eating lunch and hurrying back to court. Again, fairly new in band land...I'd not do that now. I've learned a few things since then.

And then there is what I call the true productive burp... a true burp and you produce STUFF. Just doing your thing and WHAM.... A MOUTHFUL OF SOMETHING YOU ATE A WHILE AGO. Surpise!!!! Just like a baby urps up milk. No sign I am stuck, no pain, just URP..hello!!

But, I love my band. I love being at goal weight. I love normal blood sugar and cholesterol. I LOVE my closet full of size 8 and 10s.

How long have you had your band and what weight did you start at?

I've had my band 5.5 years now. My all time high recorded weight was 217, I think I got a bit above that at one point.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
