Help!? So much gas/bloating :(

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for some feedback on extreme bloating. I had my band inserted July 10/13 and I think my first few days of recovery were pretty normal but the last week or so I have had extreme pain from bloating. So much so that it has actually woken me up from deep sleep. I experience deep burning pain in the pit of my stomach and so much bloating that my stomach is actually distended. I look pregnant at times! It seems to clear up after about an hour with Tums but its so painful and my stomach gets so big. Has anyone else experienced this? When can I expect it to go away?

I would call your surgeon's office and talk to them. You shouldn't be having bloating that severe, especially since it's worse 2 weeks after surgery.

It could be a bad response to something you're eating but it's always better safe than sorry. Give your doc a call.

i was banded on the 10th also and i am not experiencing that. I do still have some swelling but all seems to be healing fine. There is slightly more around my port but no pain associated. When do you go for a follow up? I would ask. I wish you the best of luck. Hang in there.

I had the same terrible bloating. I am now 4weeks post op and it is much better now. I don't know what causes it, but my doctor was not concerned. It will get better!

Good to know. Thanks Joy332! Were you back at work at 2 weeks post op? I'm wondering if its just too much for me right now.

Thanks all. I don't go for follow up for another 4 weeks. My surgery was done out of town so I need to travel for the follow up. Going to see my family doc. Were you all back at work 2 weeks post op? I'm wondering if its just too much for me to be back at work just yet.

I had terrible lower gas pain still at times four weeks out. I started Beano instead of gas x and what a difference that made.

Don't worry... there is NO I could have gone back as quickly as don't that I read here either..you are not a sissy! We just heal slower and since that's what's important, great job putting it first... it will pay off huge!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
