Try not to worry too much. It's not that bad. Just tell them you need a happy shot ASAP!! Then you won't care what's going on!!

Honestly, it's a piece of cake. I've put to sleep for surgeries 4 times in the last 18 months. Two of them in were only a month apart and within the last 3 months.

Being put to sleep is a piece of cake, seriously. If you tell them you're really nervous, they'll even give you a good sedative before you even get wheeled into the operating room. In fact, I whenever I've gotten the sedative I have no memory from that point until I wake up in the recovery room. It seems to go by in the blink of an eye.

Plus, think of it like this: You undoubtedly have gone through all the pre-op testing, yes? A big part of that testing is to make sure it's safe to put you under general anesthesia for surgery. If your doctor wasn't confidant it was safe he wouldn't have scheduled the surgery.

You will be fine. You'll wake up in recovery and be like "wow, I was worried for nothing!" :)

Trust me, before you know it, you'll be in the recovery room and you'll wonder, why was I so scared? Think happy, positive thoughts like this surgery is for a healthier me and I'm worth it! You are worth it and I wish you nothing but great success!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
