Going in for an unfill ; (

Recommended Posts

Well, I've decided to get an unfill. I just tried to drink a Protein shake and it's not happening. I hate to do this because I'm worried it's going to set me back and I'll be hungry all the time again. I'm so disappointed, I need restriction or else I'm going to put the weight back on. I tried to ride it out, but I'm miserable.

If you've had to get an unfill, did it set you back? I'm so sad.

Hi there! I'm 2 years banded and have had to have 1 unfill. I only gained about 5 pounds but I still felt restriction. Not sure how much you have in your band but just taking out 1/4 or 1/2 cc makes a big difference. Good luck! ???€

I had to do an unfill once due to an aggressive fill. Unfill's can be partial so you may not have any setback at all. Usually docs only do full unfills when there has been extreme restriction causing zero allowance for food/water intake (translation: inflammation that will need time to resolve without any restriction from the band hindering that process). But if you get filled and you just feel too tight, doc can take out as low as 0.1cc (higher as needed) to get you to the right spot again. good luck

Thanks for your replies! My Protein Shake is going down well now. I think I may have been drinking too fast, drinking too soon before meals and I know I sip during meals - all 3 are big no-no's. So I'm going to follow doctor's orders and ride this thing out!

I had to do a few this year due to allergy issues causing severe tightening of my band. I was able to eat and drink normally again and started losing more weight. Before the unfill, it was torture trying to eat and I was not losing any weight.

I've had 2 partial unfills. After the first I went back a month later and had the unfill plus more put back after all had calmed down. I am still working from my last unfill point.

Getting an unfill is not defeat, just another step on the journey. If you cannot drink liquid, you are too tight. You need to be able to eat SOLID foods. If you go too long, then you may be facing a complete unfill.

I had a slight infill after being too full and it put me in the green zone!

I've been traveling a lot and stressed so I am going next week for a .25 unfill. I've been feeling extremely tight. I think it's normal and I'm hoping it doesn't mean I'll gain weight.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
