Birthcontrol while banded

Recommended Posts

I am getting banded this Friday I was on implanon and had it taken out today. I am wanting to wait a year or so and am wondering which birth controls work well with having band. Obviously I don't want anything that will cause weight gain. And will probably do something in pill form. Thanks in advance for the advice

I'm making my poor hubs use condoms. He is less than thrilled. But I just don't want to go thru the hormonal swings I get with pills and its important to me to get healthy before we start trying for a kid again.

Talk to your Gyno to figure out what's best for you. There's a lot more than weight gain when making birth control decisions. For instance, if you're a smoker over 35 then any hormonal birth control is a risk.

I can tell you from my own experience: My Gyno said absolutely no Depo-Provera. She said it is notorious for rapid and severe weight gain.

I gain 30 pounds using Depo Shot and my face broken out in the worse case of acne you ever seen!

For the first month of being on a new pill you need to use back up protection such as condoms. If you start taking antibiotics while on the pill you also need to use a back up method to avoid pregnancy.

I was on Depo about 17 years ago, when it first came out. I went on it after having my daughter and gained a ton of weight, too.

I have been on the depo for a year and a half now. The mood swings are frightening...moreso for my husband LOL. I gained 15 lbs and i noticed that it was counter productive to loosing weight. My advise is STAY AWAY from depo.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
