Post op day 4 here, and I too cannot swallow even a sip of Protein Shake. I've tried Syntha6 and Vitamin world brand in vanilla, and MyoPlex carb smart ready-to-drink in chocolate. Yuck. I chugged them pre op, but drinking them slowly is impossible. Once I smell it I gag. I want something rich and yummy, without that awful smell! Or flavorless...

i havent had a shake in 3 days i just cant stomach it im on broth and Clear liquids and im dying i have 5 days left til i go in for my next stage of mushy foods. your not the only one.. ive vomited once already and have been dry heaving every time i try to drink a shake.. ive even got the clear kind and every other kind nothing will go down and stay down .. :( sucks doesnt even cover the feeling..

I too don't like the shakes . I drank a little of one shake since my surgery on the 10th I feel stronger each day without the shakes . I m not a milk drinker and I forced myself to drink the shakes on the pre op diet but since we have a few more options now I m drinking no sipping Water crystal light and eating Jello and the fat free sugar free pudding chicken broth . Doing well on these. Thank God! I try the shakes but can't get much of them down .

Been on costco Premier Protein shakes since June prior to lapband surgery. No issues. I put them in freezer for 30-45 minutes and drink like a slurpy.

This is what I changed to. Gotta try the freezer trick.

I have a High Protein Shake every morning for Breakfast for 2 1/2 years now.....

Start with some 100% whey, then 30ml of pure piquid Protein, the add your favorite fruits, Peanut Butter, coffee, chocolate, just about anything your imagination can come up with.....put it all in a blender with 8-10 ozs Water, or soy milk, add a ice cube or 2 in the summer....

Good to go with all the energy I need!

I cannot come up with any traditional combination of eggs, cereals, yogurts, etc that would even come close.......not to mention how much I would need to eat!

I blended the chocolate EAS carb smart (or something that effect lol can't recall the exact name) ready to drink with 1/4 c no sugar added chocolate frozen yogurt, a little ice for texture, and .... the game changer.... 2 tsp instant coffee! Voila! Iced mocha deliciousness without a hint of that "protein shake" taste or smell!

Now THAT is something I can drink 3x a day through the liquid stage!

Also got some vanilla flavored (protein drink and frozen yogurt), going to NutriBullet some fruit and layer it for a parfait effect!

I used the Isopure Protein Water I loved it' date=' and it was a nice change from the flavored Protein powders not matter what flavor they were ICK.

These come in fruit Punch and grape. I found them at Meijer's but that is a Michigan based store but also ordered them on Amazon.< /p>

I don't mind the shakes at all. At first, I used Body Fortress (from Walmart). Now I use ELITE by Dymatize from bodybuilder.com. Works out a little cheaper even with the delivery. Right now, I have chocolate Mint, Pina Colada, and vanilla. No, they don't taste like something from the malt shop, but they're not meant to. One thing I do is combine Crystal Light Orange with the vanilla. It tastes like a dreamsicle. Give it a shot with the different flavors.

I hear you! I got so sick of the sweet shakes...that I just could no longer do them. I did better with canned broth (Campbell's Soup broths) and thinned Soups (like creamy ones thinned with water). I just did that until I could move on to mushies. I know I did not get enough Protein then but better to get less protein than to toss your cookies! Good luck! This too shall pass!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
